Examiner.com (not to be confused with the SF Examiner) has a full review today of Prime Rib Shabu, the new restaurant that opened at 308 5th Avenue near Clement. It’s owned by Luke Sung, the same restaurateur behind eateries Isa in the Marina and Domo in Hayes Valley.
Entitled “Prime Rib Shabu will warm you up on a cold San Francisco night”, the review is positive and gets high marks for the food.
The reviewer does find fault with the size of the tables: “Groups of four or more may find it inefficient and a bit awkward since there is room for only one vegetable basket at a time and are forced to share. Servers must continually check on tables and bring out remaining baskets piecemeal.”
If you like to take the little ones out to eat, Prime Rib Shabu sounds like a good option. “It provides a fun, engaging dining experience for school aged kids. There is a meat slicing station in the back of the restaurant where children enjoy congregating and watching the cook machine-slice and hand-slice the meats. And of course, youngsters get a kick out of boiling their own food.”

I hope they take the Grand Opening sign down sometime in the first three years. I like shabu shabu. I’ll try this place once I move into the hood… soon.
