Review of Japanese eatery, Kappou Gomi

This week, SFGate.com reviewed local Japanese restaurant Kappou Gomi.

When many people think Japanese, images of hibachis and sushi come to mind. Not the case for this restaurant. “A sign plastered to the window reading “No sushi, no combination plates” is the first clue that this is an entirely different experience,” reviewer Amanda Gold writes.

The style is small plates and the extensive menu left the reviewer surmising “How to choose between the luscious butter-grilled salmon ($8) and the slightly sweet miso sauteed pork ($7.50)? Or between a safe but satisfying salt-grilled shrimp ($7), with a crisp shell and tender meat, or the more daring vinegared water shield ($5.50), a gelatinous water lily?”

Gold awarded Kappou Gomi two out of four stars (“Good”), and said “it’s a soothing place to linger…only a pair of octagonal windows overlooking the street is a reminder of the busy world outside”.
