Golden Gate Park Concourse fountains going with the flow

Back in September, Rec & Park Dept. chief Phil Ginsburg blogged that they would begin repairing and restoring the Golden Gate Park Concourse fountains.

True to his word, repairs kicked off several weeks ago. Much of the inner concourse is now closed off with cyclone fencing and the center fountains have been completely dismantled (but not destroyed!).

The Examiner reports that the project is costing $1.1 million, and that another $100,000 is being requested to complete the job.

A worker at the site told me they’re targeting June to turn the fountains back on, but he wasn’t sure if they would flow 24 hours a day.

  1. I hope they can keep the skateboarders off of them.

  2. If there was a large enough skatepark, this would probably not be a concern anymore.
If there was a designated tag wall(s) where people/kids could express themselves artistically, perhaps the graffiti problem would lessen (the huge sea wall along Ocean Beach is perfect).
Though the DPW and Park and Rec folks will still probably “sign” their names on those signs.
If cannabis were legalized and regulated such that it has been in Amsterdam for years, and such that the drug alcohol is, perhaps the world, or at least many cities in CA, would be a happier place.
We all understand though that the CIA and the shadow gov need their drug-funded sources of revenue though. Keep pretending that they want to “win” the “war on drugs”.
If there really was a government of the people, BY the people, and FOR the people, then times might not be so desperate as they are becoming…

  3. That’s enough If’s for an if pie westender! Cue Louis Armstrong and It’s a Beautiful World! Skateboard park would be great but the way the city is going it would be on a per hour basis. Same with renting some tag space on a wall. the other sentiments are well thought out and positive, kudos on that!

  4. Skateboard park, graffiti walls – they may take up some of the pressure but both activities are essentially rebellious, anti-authoritarian and, to a large extent, anti-social in their nature. Sanctioning or co-opting them would only drive the most alienated elements elsewhere. Spending money we don’t have coddling them only promotes more sense of entitlement.

Now, legalizing MJ… that’s another story – a good one!!!
