In honor of the blog’s first birthday, I’ve organized a special event for RichmondSFBlog readers. Next Sunday, May 23, join us for a special tour of Sutro Baths.
The tour will be led by Tom Bratton who is widely considered to be one of the foremost historians on Sutro Baths. His father worked at the baths and Tom himself also worked there as a teenager. He has also led tours of the baths for the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
Aside from his personal experience with the great landmark, Tom has also spent many years studying Adolph Sutro and working with other historians and archaeologists to understand how Sutro got the baths going in the beginning using tunnels, catch basins and the ocean tides.
Tom has also amassed a great collection of historic photos, culled from the GGNRA archives. He’ll have them on hand at the tour to help you envision what used to be in place of the now crumbling walls and algaed pools.
The tour will begin at 11am on Sunday, May 23 and last about 90 minutes. It’s free for RichmondSFBlog readers but space is limited to 25 participants. So please use the Contact Us page to email us your reservation request. Include your name, phone number (in case there’s a last minute change) and the number of people in your party.
Special thanks to Tom Bratton for agreeing to lead the tour. It’s going to be a real treat. I look forward to meeting some of you next weekend!

Thanks Sarah for organizing a great history event!
Hi folks,
Thank you for organizing this. I’d like to attend the tour and sent a message-but not sure if it was received. I’d like further information. Please send a note.
Best wishes,
Dan
