Inside the 15th Avenue gate to the Presidio and on the east side of the new Presidio Landmark building are several historic homes on Wyman Avenue. They sit above Highway 1/Park Presidio and look out over Mountain Lake Park.
They’ve been in bad shape for the last decade or so, but the Presidio has almost finished restoring them. While at the public meeting on Monday night, we were allowed to walk through one of the 5 bedroom homes.
They’ve done a nice job bringing the homes up to modern standards without losing the charm of their original design. You won’t find a giant master bathroom with a jacuzzi tub, but you will find a lovely sun porch (more like fog porch but that sounds bad on a real estate flyer), a top level family room/bedroom, hardwood floors, and a truly unique setting in San Francisco. From their website:
Three single family homes and eight duplexes once occupied by physicians and their families are now available for the next generation of Presidio residents. Located above Mountain Lake, the homes have undergone a thoughtful historic rehabilitation that includes modern amenities and “green” features. Units range in size from 1,700 square feet to 3,300 square feet, with three, four, or five bedrooms. The neighborhood was constructed between 1915 and 1932.
More on the Wyman Avenue homes
Rents haven’t been disclosed yet but you can bet they’ll be steep. The former general’s home at Fort Scott, 7-bedrooms and a former Decorator’s Showcase house, rents for $25,000 a month (thanks to an anonymous tipster for that info).
One other bummer – no pets. Which is too bad since that the road that runs by Wyman Avenue and over to Mountain Lake Park is one of the best dogs walks in the neighborhood. 😉
