CAPTAIN RICHARD CORREIA’S MESSAGE
On September 1, 2010 we commenced the Richmond Station Burglary Abatement Outreach Program. Within forty-eight hours of after every initial police response to a residential burglary reported in the District an officer will respond back to the area of the burglary. Officers will visit residences near the location of the burglary and attempt to make contact with residents for the purposes of alerting them to the near-by burglary. The officer will provide the residents with burglary prevention literature and make home security inspection referrals. If the officer is unable to the make contact with the resident then the materials should be left in a mail box or other suitable location.

We are doing this because studies suggest that individuals are more apt to take measures to prevent becoming a crime victim when they learn that a crime that was committed near-by. Close proximity seems to make folks more inclined to acknowledge, assess and manage risk. Conversely, learning of an event that occurred far away does to seem to create the same sense of risk in individuals. By notify residents living near the scene of a burglary we hope to alert them to the risks in their neighborhood and then though conversation and literature provide them with guidance as to how to lower their risk of victimization.

During the past week, there were 20 traffic accidents 5 involving injuries. There were 3 citations issued for driving
without a license or driving on a suspended license. There was 1 arrest for driving under the influence.

NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 08/29/10 at 2:50am officers were called to 10th Avenue and Geary Boulevard on a report of a vandalism that had
just occurred. The caller reported that he had seen a male graffiti the side of a business and walk west on Geary. Officers located the suspect, a 33 year old male nearby and found him to be in possession of two bottles of paint. He was charged with vandalism.

On 08/29/10 at 2:20pm officers were called to the 2700 block of McAllister on a neighbor dispute. The caller reported
that a neighbor was a nuisance and on a daily basis would come out on the front porch and shout at passersby. Police had been called on several occasions but the offending neighbor would never open the door to speak to the officers. As the officers were getting into their patrol vehicle the offending neighbor came out on to her porch and started screaming again. Suddenly from the upper unit in the building a suspect poured a bucket of water over the offending neighbors head, soaking her. The officers detained the upstairs neighbor and charged him with battery.

NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
On 08/29/10 at 3:15pm the victim parked and locked two bicycles to the bike rack in front of the De Young Museum.
When she returned at 5:20pm the lock had been cut and both bikes were missing. The bicycles were prototypes made of silver titanium worth $13,000.

On 08/26/10 between 1:00pm and 3:00pm on the 2300 block of Broderick a suspect entered into a garage and took
golf clubs, hunting hats, gloves and duck calls. There were no signs of forced entry.

On 08/27/10 between 5:50am and 5:00pm on the 500 block of 22nd Avenue a suspect gained entry into a residence
by breaking the glass adjacent to the front door. Once inside the suspect took cash, a laptop, a camera and a Wii game.

On 08/31/10 between 8:15am and 6:15pm on the unit block of Arguello a suspect gained entry into an apartment via
an unlocked bathroom window. The suspect took a large amount of jewelry and a laptop.

  1. what a bummer about the person who was charged with battery after calling the cops on the cooky neighbor. i can’t say i would never be driven to dumping a bucket of water on an obnoxious louldmouth, but i know i will never do it after trying to get the police involved.

  2. lmao…. this is hilarious I would have been tempted to do that same thing… The cops should have gone back upstairs and cited the looney lady for a public nuisance violation, not the great neighbor who drowned her…Bullseye… Haha… Seems like if this guy get a good attorney or challenges this charge it will be dropped. These cops must have been short on there citation quota. This is bogus I’d buy that upstairs neighbor a cup of coffee any day.

  3. re: burglary on 8/27/10, it was a wii console, not a game. also a power drill and 2 car keys, but not the car… odd. the burglar first got through a locked metal gate, an old gate that’s keyed on both sides. if you have one of these gates, or none at all, i highly recommend you consider getting a new, secure gate.
