Presidio Middle School algebra class goes hi-tech with iPads

The Examiner reports today that our own Presidio Middle School at 30th Avenue and Clement is making a leap into the 21st century.

An algebra class at Presidio will receive iPads as part of a year-long pilot study around a full-curriculum algebra application for the device. The study is being conducted in several schools in the state by publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and will include as many as 400 students.

Algebra students can use the application to work through their math problems. “For instance, when stuck on a math problem, students can watch videos to help them solve the math concept or record notes to help them with a similar problem in the future.”

The SFUSD says the trial is part of a larger study that will compare students using the iPad to those using a conventional textbook to measure content and effectiveness. Results of the study are expected to be revealed next fall.

Sure beats a protractor, right? Oh wait, that was geometry class…
