Police Blotter – October 1, 2010

CAPTAIN RICHARD CORREIA’S MESSAGE
Inspectors from Richmond Station are investigating two vandalism incidents that occurred recently at the Golden Gate Golf Course, which is located at the western edge of the park. Several fairways and greens were damaged by vehicles racing around the course. If you have any information about these incidents please call Lieutenant Mark Mahoney at 666-8042 or you can leave a voice mail on our tip line by calling 668-7387. If you have seen a vehicle in the neighborhood with excessive fresh grass and mud on the on the body or undercarriage please give us a call.

During the past week in the District there were 22 traffic accidents 8 involving injuries. There were 6 citations issued for driving without a license or driving on a suspended license. There were 2 arrests for driving under the influence.

NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 09/25/10 at 12:20PM on the 600 block of 39th Avenue a resident came home to find a vehicle blocking his
driveway. He noticed one suspect walking around on the passenger side of the car and the driver was sitting in the vehicle. The resident honked his horn to let the driver know he was to move his car. The suspect on the sidewalk swore at the resident and the girlfriend of the resident who was also in the vehicle. After again honking his horn and getting no response the victim exited his car and went to tell the driver to move his car. He told the suspect on the sidewalk not to speak to his girlfriend that way. The suspect on the sidewalk pushed the victim and a struggle ensued. The driver got out of the car and punched the victim in the mouth and head. Both suspects then fled in the vehicle. Another resident on the block witnessed the incident and reported that the suspects lived nearby. The officers were able to contact the suspects and charged both of the 17 year old males with battery.

On 09/26/10 at 8:30am officers recovered a stolen vehicle in the area of 6th Avenue and Cornwall . When the owner was contacted he told the officers he couldn’t come to pick up his car and they needed to tow it. As the officer was waiting for the tow truck to arrive he concealed himself in a doorway down the street. He then observed a male and female walk to the car, with the female entering through the driver’s side door. The officer detained both occupants and the female suspect, a 31 year old was charged with stolen auto.

On 09/29/10 at 10:05am an off duty officer was on her way to work at Richmond Station. As she was driving
westbound on Hayes Street at Baker, she observed the suspect walk south on Baker Street to westbound Fell St . The officer was very familiar with the suspect as he had been arrested by her and other Richmond District officers in the past on numerous auto burglaries inside Golden Gate Park . The suspect is currently on parole for auto burglary and, as a condition of his parole, is prohibited from possessing burglary tools. The officer watched the suspect as he continued west on Fell St along the curb line looking into the windows of parked vehicles. The officer called for assistance and the suspect was detained. Upon seeing the uniformed officers the suspect dropped his head and said, “You got me.” The suspect a 51 year old male was charged with being in possession of burglar tools, a narcotics violation and violation of parole.

On 09/29/10 at 3:10pm officers were called to the 400 block of Anza Street on a report of a male that had just
broken into a vehicle. The caller reported the description of the suspect that was fleeing the scene on a bicycle. Officers located the suspect at 2nd Avenue and Geary Boulevard . Property taken from the vehicle was found on the suspect who also had numerous burglar tools. Officers determined that the suspect had attempted to break into two other vehicles also parked on the 400 block of Anza. The 48 year old male who is on probation for a prior auto burglary was charged with the break-ins, possession of stolen property and a probation violation.

NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
Between 09/24/10 at 10:00am and 09/25/10 at 12:20am on the 400 block of 20th Avenue a suspect gained entry into an apartment by prying open the front door. The loss was a laptop, camera, jewelry and cash.

On 09/27/10 on the 3400 block of California Street a victim was walking to her vehicle that was parked in a parking garage. As she got to her car, she saw the suspect kneeling at her rear tire with a tire jack under her car. She yelled at the suspect who then removed the jack and walked over to a blue Chevy. The suspect entered the passenger door and they sped off towards the exit. The victim chased after them knowing that the vehicle would have to stop at the parking garage gate. As the victim was making her way to the exit, the Chevy stopped at the gate to pay the attendant, but the suspect told the attendant he had lost his ticket. The suspect exited his car, checked around the vehicle for his ticket and in his own pockets. Finally he got back into the drivers seat and drove through the metal parking garage gate, bending it back. The victim was able to get the license plate of the car before it barreled through the gate and provided it to the officers. A short time later the vehicle was found abandoned at Mayfair and Iris. The investigation is continuing.

Between 09/28/10 at 6:00pm and 09/29/10 7:30am on the 300 block of Clement Street a suspect gained entry into an apartment and took cash that the resident had hidden. There were no signs of forced entry.

On 09/29/10 between 6:30am and 10:00am on the 1700 block of Clement Street a suspect entered a business and
pried open changed machine and took the cash from inside.
