CAPTAIN RICHARD CORREIA’S MESSAGE
This year has seen a marked increase in the number of sexual assaults city-wide where the victim has been incapacitated by alcohol and/or drugs. Our Sexual Assault Investigative unit is seeing more reports this year than in years prior. The reasons for this are not clear. The most affected demographic are 18-28 year old white females. Sound practices to avoid victimization are not accept drinks from strangers, not to go home with people you don’t know, never accept a bottled beverage that you did not see being opened and to socialize in groups. It is illegal to have sex with someone who is incapable of giving consent due to intoxication. Under California law sex with a person incapable of giving consent due to intoxication is a felony (See: Penal Code Section 261(a)(3)) punishable by 3,6 or 8 years in state prison. Please advise your friends and family to be careful and to contact the Police Department if they believe they have been a victim.

NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 10/12/19 at 7:20am officers were sent to a call of a man with a knife in the area of Overlook and Transverse Drives inside Golden Gate Park. The officers drove down Overlook Drive and observed a male on a bike driving towards them that matched the description given by the caller. The officers recognized the male and knew he was on parole. The officers told the male to stop and get off his bike but he fled on the bike down the path and into the trees. The suspect then fell off the bike and took off on foot with the officers in foot pursuit across the lawn area. The suspect was detained on JFK Drive . The officers determined that the 39 year old male had an outstanding warrant for a parole violation and was also in possession of narcotics. He was charged accordingly.

Officers located the suspect who subsequently provided them with false information as to his name and birth date. Officers were finally able to determine the suspect’s true identity and found out he had just been released from state prison on 10/08/10. On 10/12/10 at 11:45am officers were called to the area of 9th Avenue and Lake Street on a report of a reckless driver. A witness provided the license plate number of the vehicle as well as a description of the car and driver. Further information provided by the caller was that the vehicle was heading westbound on California Street on the wrong side of the road. Officers located the vehicle on Park Presidio and stopped it just north of Lake Street . It was apparent that the driver was under the influence. When asked who the car belonged to she replied that the car belonged to a friend. When asked if she had permission to drive the vehicle, the suspect replied, “Well he should never have left me in the car unattended.” Officers were then told that the registered owner had contacted 911 to report that his car has been stolen and that he was en route to the officer’s location. When the owner arrived told the officers that he parked his car at Pine and Divisadero and left the suspect in the vehicle while he visited his mom in the hospital. The owner said he left the keys in the vehicle so the suspect could listen to music while she waited. When the owner came out and saw the car was gone he called 911 as he knew the suspect had been drinking and should not be driving. The suspect, a 47 year old female was charged with driving under the influence and stolen auto.
