CAPTAIN RICHARD CORREIA’S MESSAGE
Please note that a majority of the police actions mentioned below were precipitated by your telephone calls. These calls are what make our partnership successful. Please call the police immediately if you see suspicious behavior or a crime in progress. In the case of a crime in progress or other emergency you should call 911.

On January 12, 2011 Officers from the Police Department’s Wilderness Program took a group from Alamo Elementary School on a day hike to the Presidio. The group included 22 students, 1 teacher, 8 parents and 2 officers. The hike included visits to historic and interesting areas, and a good time was had by all.

Our next Police Community Forum is on January 18, 2010 at 7:00pm at Richmond Station (6th Avenue between Geary and Anza). In addition to discussing public safety and crime prevention issues, we will be giving a tour of the station.

During the past week in the District there were 27 traffic accidents 7 involving injuries. There were 6 citations issued for driving without a license or driving on a suspended license. There were 2 arrests for driving under the influence.

NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 01/07/11 at 10:30pm officers responded to a call of two male juveniles breaking into a vehicle at 18th Avenue and Cabrillo. Officers located the two who admitted that they had used a shaved key to open the door to a Honda. They told the officers that they just wanted to get out of the cold. Both boys, a 14 year old and a 15 year old lived nearby and their parents responded to the scene. The registered owner of the vehicle was contacted and determined that there was no damage to his car, nor were there any items missing and did not want any further action taken.

On 01/09/11 at 4:35am officers were called to Fulton Street and 44th Avenue on a report of a male who had just broken into a van. The caller was observing this from their window and was able to provide a description of the suspect and direction of travel. Officers located the suspect on 40th Avenue at Fulton and detained him. The suspect tried to convince the officers that this was a case of mistaken identity and he was always in the wrong place at the wrong time. The suspect did say he had been arrested before and admitted that it didn’t look good that his prior arrests were for auto burglary. Property taken from inside the van was located in the suspects backpack. The 28 year old male was charged with auto burglary, possession of stolen property and a probation violation.

On 01/11/11 at 8:50am officers responded to an alarm call on the 3000 block of Clement Street. When the officers arrived on scene they saw that the front door of the business had been pried open. A walk thru was conducted and no one was inside. One of the officers who was searching the area saw a male walking eastbound on Clement at 18th Avenue. This male matched the description of a burglary suspect from the 4600 block of Geary, (see noteworthy incidents). The officer stopped to talk to this male and asked him to take his hands out of his pockets. The male would only remove his left hand and turned his body in such a way that the officer was not able to the subject’s right side. Again the officer told the subject to take his hand out of his right pocket and when he refused the officer grabbed the male’s left shoulder and a crowbar slid out of the right arm sleeve of the male’s jacket. The suspect was detained and it was determined that he had a warrant for his arrest for a burglary that occurred in the Taraval District. The suspect was taken to the station and interviewed by a Richmond Station SIT Inspector. The suspect admitted to prying open the door of the business on the 3000 block of Clement and said he had burglarized the same premise back in June 2010. The 40 year old was charged with burglary, possession of burglar tools and the warrant.

NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
Between 01/07/11 at 6:30pm and 01/08/11 at 8:45am on the unit block of Clement Street, a suspect entered into a business by smashing the glass on the front door. The suspect took cash from a box.

On 01/09/11 at 4:00am officers were called to the 3700 block of Geary due to an alarm sounding at a business. When officers arrived on scene they saw that a window had been broken out and a cash register was missing from the front counter. The owner arrived on scene and confirmed this to be true. While the officers were still on scene, dispatch received a call from a male who lives on the 500 block of Arguello. He reported that he had found a cash register underneath his car. Officers recovered the register along with a glove that was lying nearby. The loss was cash.

On 01/09/11 at 8:30pm tenants of an apartment building on the 4600 block of Geary Boulevard heard a loud bang coming from a business located on the bottom floor. One of the tenants went out to investigate and saw the suspect coming out of the tradesman’s door. The tenant knew that the business was closed and no one should be back there. Believing that this suspect had committed a crime the tenant followed the male while asking people on the street to call 911. Officers finally caught up with the tenant at 6th Avenue and Geary but were unable to locate the suspect in the area. The caller provided the officers with a description of the suspect. When the owner of the business arrived on scene it was determined that the suspect had gained entry into the rear by breaking a window. The only loss at this time was food products.
