Around 6:30pm this evening, a male driver suffered a heart attack while driving near 20th Avenue and Clement. He crashed into another vehicle and jumped the curb, where he nearly demolished the corner of an apartment building.
Several people in the cars were sent to local hospitals with injuries, however no pedestrians or building residents were injured. Residents on the scene reported that the driver was conscious after the crash.
Once the cars were removed and a fire in the crash area was extinguished, a building inspector was called in to check the integrity of the building. The inspector did issue a green tag which means the residence is safe to occupy.
Special thanks to my cub reporter David for his report and pics from the scene, and to reader Blythe for sending in her report as well. Everyone stay safe out there!

I saw the aftermath from across the street tonight and thought, “How weird that they’re doing renovation so late at night.” I’m glad the residents won’t have to leave the building, and hope the driver will be okay.
Yeah, I was on a bus headed towards the beach and I saw the police cars, fire truck, etc. Scary. Glad no one got hurt and I hope the driver is okay too.
Saw this walking home from the gym yesterday. Looked pretty bad…one car right on the corner where this happened though didnt have a scratch. not sure how that happened.
i think its crazy that a car can do that much damage to a building. shouldn’t buildings be able to with stand more?
