RichmondSFBlog reader Jennifer sent in this photo today of some new artwork that was put up on the side of the building on the northeast corner of 8th Avenue and Clement Streets.
This clearly was an invited contribution to the building since it’s signed. Is it an ad for Lexus?
If anyone knows the details, leave a comment here on the post. Otherwise I’ll try to pop in to the building’s corner store this weekend to get the scoop.
When I look at it, all I can think of is that car ad where the kid whispers “Zoom zoom”.

The corner of 8th & Clement, before the painting went up.
Walked by when the fellow was painting it. Yep, ad for Lexus.
@Chris – Huh, interesting. Did he say how long it would be up?
Looks like Lexus is very jealous of the Mazda 3 design…
Countdown to another pointless Eric Mar resolution…in 3…2…
It’s part of the “Defy Convention” campaign from Toyota USA. It’s a hybrid, so maybe the blue sparks on the ground are electricity?
“…eco-friendly custom outdoor murals in five urban markets”

talked to the artist while he was doing it. it’ll only be up for about 6 weeks. he’s a former oakland graffiti artist who now lives in germany and travels all over europe doing this sort of artwork/advertising. very nice guy.
I wonder if it will spark our own neighborhood billboard debate, a la Bernal Heights (see: http://bernalwood.wordpress.com/2011/02/23/its-really-old-really-evidence-proves-historic-provenance-of-threatened-coca-cola-mural/)
Oh wait, this one is neither old nor attractive…
@CrakyGal: Out of the park. I generally like Mar, but well done. Maybe not really like-like, but on the Sup scale, I think he’s up there with the more helpful ones.
