Due to the threat of a tsunami hitting the west coast as a result of the 8.9 earthquake in Japan, the Great Highway and Ocean Beach have been officially closed, indefinitely.
I’m being told that Park service and police are out on the beaches telling people to leave.
We had a brush with a tsunami just about a year ago, however at that time no closures occurred.
This one is clearly more serious, so please avoid the coastal areas until further notice.
Be safe,
Sarah B.
