Take a simulated drive down the new Presidio Parkway

What is now Doyle Drive will eventually be torn down and reconstructed as the Presidio Parkway. Construction began in late 2009 and will continue into late 2014, when it is scheduled to reopen.

Back when the project was kicking off, an interesting “aerial flyover” video was produced to show off what the new roadway would look like (see below).

This week the Presidio Parkway, in conjunction with Autodesk, premiered a simulator that puts you in the driver seat on the new roadway. It’s open to visitors on Wednesdays from 12noon until 5pm at the Autodesk gallery inside the One Market building near the Ferry Building.

I might have to visit just to relive the driving shortcut to the Marina that I’ve been missing so much…

  1. Why is the guy on the wrong side of the car? This is not England, or is it?

  2. I am going to sound like a whiner. This is an awful video other than to demonstrate the “wow” factor of their video system– which is impressive. It does not help me orient what the ‘heck’ is going on. Slow it down and narrate a bit so we can orient ourselves. Things are the same but different.

I am glad that there will be a connector going from Park Presido towards the Marina.

With that down and closures of the great highway, I’m starting to feel that the rest of the world does not want people from the outer richmond to escape. Anyone else feel that way?

  3. @Jonathan: Showing us the details of the new connector was not the purpose of this video — that’s the purpose of the simulator itself. The video was simply to let people know about the simulator’s existence, and it did a fine job of that.

  4. I enjoyed it- didn’t realise there were going to be tunnels, like that the railings are same color as the bridge, liked the steering wheel on the wrong side, havnt driven like that in years, it was ok geez
