San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee is on a city-wide tour, holding a series of budget town hall meetings with residents in various neighborhoods. He’s coming to the Richmond District next Wednesday.

The meeting will be held at the Richmond District Recreation Center, 251 18th Avenue, from 6pm until 7:30pm.

The town hall is co-hosted by the Mayor and Richmond District Supervisor Eric Mar to educate the public about the Mayor’s budget principles and to hear directly from our neighborhood about their budget concerns and ideas as the city faces a projected $380 million budget shortfall for fiscal year 2011-12.

“These district-based town halls provide direct input from residents about what they think is important. We need to consider this feedback as we balance a budget that protects and serves all San Franciscans,” said Mayor Lee.

“Balancing the City’s budget remains my top priority. We need a budget that will ensure that San Francisco remains fiscally solvent while we work to stimulate the local economy, create jobs and reform our pension system, so that we can continue to provide city services.”

Mayor Lee has been busy listening since he took office. According to the press release about these town hall meetings, he’s already met with over 80 community based organizations and advocacy groups, nearly 50 labor representatives from the city’s unions, representatives from the city commissions and department Heads to hear about budget priorities and cost savings ideas.

I’m just glad he’s been able to squeeze in some rollerskating (and break a world record while he was at it). All work and no play makes Mayor Lee a dull boy. No one wants that!
