SFAppeal reports that the SFPD bomb squad was called out to 24th and Clement Streets this afternoon after an explosion occurred in a USPS mailbox on the southwest corner. The incident was reported at 1:24pm.
During the investigation, police blocked off Clement Street between 22nd Avenue and 25th Avenue, and 24th Avenue from Geary Boulevard to California Street.
There was no damage to the outside of the mailbox, and investigators determined that a firework had been lit and tossed into the mailbox.
No injuries were reported and the streets were re-opened at 2:25pm.

Damn kids, get off my mailbox!
Holy smokes. I live literally 100ft from that mailbox. Its a few houses down from me. Wow. My street was blocked off today? Hope it was OK…
I was wondering what the channel 7 news helicopter was doing in the neighborhood yesterday. Whenever a copter is above the neighborhood you know something is up.
