- SF Water/Power/Sewer would like your opinion on potential new streetlight designs for the city. Take the survey
- Comedian Margaret Cho counts Louis’ as one of her favorite breakfast places in SF. She’ll be thrilled when they reopen.
- Ocean Beach Bulletin has a great article on the Merrie Way promenade/amusement park that used to be out by Lands End
- This church looks a little different today than it does here in 1951, but it’s still recognizable!
Interesting to put the Free Peets thing right under the Toy Boat link… since those of us between Arguello & Park Presidio are not allowed a choice of coffee spots on Clement, and so need to go to 16th & Geary or Laurel Village! I like the neighborhood feel, but think it can be a combo of some chains & local stores…. oh well… I just leave the immediate hood to shop!
Susan – there are plenty of coffee options on Clement! Blue Danube, Cafe la Flore, Toy Boat, Cumaica (formerly Martha Bros.) and many of the small bakeries also offer coffee.
If you want chain coffee, yes, you are right, Laurel Village or further up on Geary are the places to go, but to say there is no choice on Clement is just strange.
There are plenty of places to get a cup of “coffee” on Clement and extending out on Geary, but no REALLY GOOD, HIGH QUALITY coffee in the Richmond!
Yes, there are outfits that offer Blue Bottle in the neighborhood – but they don’t get it right because it’s not their priority or focus.
But I’ll never give up hope that an artisanal, local roaster will open a dedicated cafe or kiosk out here. WE NEED YOU, GOOD COFFEE SHOP!
Are you listening, Blue Bottle? Four Barrel? De La Paz? Ritual? Philz? Please open shop out here!
Philz would be an amazing addition to the neighborhood….
actually, the Village Market on 8th and California serves Blue Bottle Coffee. as an alternative, one can also go to Japonica on 17th and California for Weaver’s coffee.
Grace, I’m well aware.
But Village Market (8th/Cal) doesn’t make their Blue Bottle very well despite practicing for a year now – part of the problem being their identity confusion – are they still a market? They’ve reduced their inventory of groceries drastically. Are they now a cafe? Ten people behind the counter making the lunch of the day in their makeshift “kitchen” but no one can check you out. Are they a cafe? You have to wait in line 10 minutes to buy 3 groceries while they slow-drip a row of Blue Bottle coffees.
Weaver’s at Japonica is in fact my firs choice in the hood, but again, it’s not a great place to sit and enjoy your coffee since it’s also a retail space with hardly enough room to turn around in.
Pizzetta was also selling Blue Bottle in the morning, not sure they’re still doing it because like Village Market, they just couldn’t get it right. I know another couple places have BB but the names escape me – both full service restaurant that use Blue Bottle, but to enjoy after your dinner.
I’ll keep saying it – we need a dedicated, local-artisinal coffee roastery shop out here with baristas that know how to pull and drip!! Please!
