A few morsels for your Tuesday…
Affordable dim sum, tasty dessert at Lee Hou (332 Clement)
Just today, SF Weekly wrote a long review on their recent visit to Clement Street’s Lee Hou Restaurant where they warn diners not to be put off by the garish decor, and not to miss their durian pastry dessert.
Did you say goodbye to Java Restaurant on Balboa?
Eater SF reported that Java Restaurant at 417 Clement closed its doors after nearly 33 years in business, apparently due to the owner retiring. It’s been replaced by a Vietnamese cafe called Bunn Mi.
Review of Shabu Pub, 3809 Geary
SF Weekly reviews the newest Shabu addition to the neighborhood (3809 Geary near 2nd Avenue), saying “it wasn’t quite shabu shabu, at least as far as most diners in Japan would recognize.” Looking for a kick? “Their spicy miso broth would rival Sichuan hot pots in Chengdu for its gasp-inducing potency,” writes the reviewer.
Speaking of Shabu…
Prime Rib Shabu at 308 5th Avenue near Clement is closed until August for ADA renovations.
Mobile sharpening for you DIY foodies
I spotted SaucyJoe’s mobile sharpening service at the corner of 15th and Lake last Saturday evening. Joe says he doesn’t have a regular day in the Richmond District; he just parks there every now and then and picks up business (he regularly goes to Glen Park and Noe Valley). I’m sure you could lure him back by hitting him up on Twitter or through his website. Your sharp implements will thank you.

For a second I thought you meant Javaholics and I was going to celebrate. I’m sorry to write that about a local business but dear god that place needs to be shuttered. Or at least new management.
I think you mean Java on Clement, right?
Yeah, the story was about Java on Clement and I was thinking of Javaholics on Balboa.
Even since Giavano’s closed down I have been searching for a knife sharpener. One day Saucy Joe was parked out in front of the Village Market, so I took my full set to him and put the best edge on all of them I have ever had. even gave them a fine polish too. This guy does great work and I don’t let just anyone work on my blades. I’ve been looking for him ever since. Now, I’m following him on twitter. THX Sarah B!
Awesome! 🙂 – Sarah B.
