- San Francyclo, based in the neighborhood, offers guided bike tours of the city for all levels of cyclists. Owner Jason will soon be opening up a bike shop on Arguello too.
- Attention inner Clement merchants: City Attorney / Mayoral candidate Dennis Herrera will go on a merchant walk on Clement this Saturday, August 27th beginning at 2:30pm. Consider asking him what he plans to do about the ADA lawsuits…
- Not sweet enough: Reader Chrissy wrote in to tell us The Sweet Days Cafe on 18th & Geary closed it doors. They took over the corner location from Joe’s Ice Cream earlier this year. We’re hearing LOL Cafe at 25th & Geary may have also shuttered.
- Owner William Schoepp of Balboa Street’s Crown Hardware passed away earlier this month. He opened the store in 1957, and his sons Greg and Joe intend to keep the store open.
- Remember the saga over Jimmy’s Old Car Picnic keeping their charity event in Golden Gate Park? SFWeekly digs into the ugly politics behind it. You might need a shower after reading it.
- The tea house at Golden Gate Park’s Japanese Tea Garden will be named after Jack Hirose, former supporter and garden concessionaire.
- Snip, snip. 7×7 profiles old-school barbershops, including Rick’s Barber Shop on Geary between 17th and 18th Avenue. “Rick doesn’t have much patience for postmodern haircut requests…”

- I had a chance to check out the Rayko Photo Center show that contrasts then & now views of Adolph Sutro’s San Francisco. If you’re south of Market, I recommend checking it out; through September 15.

I went to the Rayko show yesterday — it was interesting! But definitely take a look at the large photo taken on board a ship, in the men’s room, too, from about 1906, and one shot of Market Street, in the far back of the building, taken in 1905 by a Richmond District photographer.
Is LOL Cafe on Geary and 25th Ave also closed?
@Mike – Hmm, could be. Just called the number on their website http://www.lol-sf.com/ and got a voicemail (they should be open according to their hours). I’ll ask the twitter and FB-sphere, see if anyone knows.

I was just walking down Clement and saw that both Sweet Delight and Pagan were closed with paper on the windows. Not sure if they’ve shut down or if they’re renovating.
Oh, and that dollar store (can’t remember the proper name) has been closed for a few weeks now.
But in better news, amongst the spate of new produce markets that opened up recently, I highly recommend the one next to Sweet Delight with the red and white checkerboard tablecloth in the window. They’re inexpensive, super friendly and gave me a freebie for being a repeat customer.
Yes, the New May Wah people opened up Healthy Produce in the former Clement Produce space, and the new store next to Sweet Delight is really cute. Both look super clean and have a good mix of stuff.
There’s another new store in the works on the corner of 10th and Clement, not sure what they’ll have but I hear it’s another grocery. Oh, and Coriya Hot Pot City is opening as something else, soon, as the sign out front promises.
Two more small businesses closing on Geary Blvd. This is not good. What is happening to our neighborhood and how can we turn this around?
