CAPTAIN KEITH SANFORD’S MESSAGE
The Greater Geary Blvd. Merchants & Property Owners Association luncheon was held on September 14th, 2011 and was hosted by Association President David Heller. It was again a success! A packed house with representatives from State government officials to our own city political figures and business associates attended. Assemblywoman Fiona Ma was the Master of Ceremony overseeing the event with David. Chief G. Suhr had the honor of introducing Officer Robert Ramos and Officer Richard Jue for their selection of the “Special Recognition Awards” SFPOA President G. Delagnes presented awards to Officer R. Ramos and Officer R. Jue additionally for their dedication and service to the City and County of San Francisco. Officer R. Ramos has been a long time member of Richmond Police Station and his efforts in the Golden Gate Park dealing with tourists, homeless and our citizens on a daily basis which reflects positively for the SFPD. Officer Ramos in conjunction with his park assignment works with all of our officers handling calls for service in the district too. He has been and continues to be an asset to me and our community! Great job Bob!!
As a result of our traffic concerns in the district we are planning our six month Traffic Enforcement Operations which focuses on our school zones and major roadways (Geary Blvd., California , Clement, Fulton , Arguello, Presidio, Funston and side roads). We look forward to working with our SFPD Traffic Company, MTA and our community liaisons PAR, SAN ,SAFE, SFWalk and the Advisory Board. Our enforcement efforts will target speeding, red lights, stop signs and pedestrian right of ways violations. We hope to get the message out to all motorists and pedestrians via public service announcements.
We are currently preparing for two upcoming events in the Golden Gate Park. Tour de Fat and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass (09/24/2011 & 09/30-10/02/2011). We are looking forward to having two festive venues which are annual events in our district.
We have the commitment from representatives of Rec & Park, MTA, Outside Lands , Park Rangers and Hardly S. Bluegrass as well as Commander Corriea for our Police Community Police Forum meeting on September 20, 2011 at 7pm. We’ll have the opportunity to interact in a proactive manner in discussion of venues past and present in the Golden Gate Park. I look forward to finding positive resolutions to concerns by the residents, city government agencies and the organizers during our meeting. Refreshments will be provided.
The PCRF (Police Community Relations Forum) will be held on Sept. 20th at 1pm and 7pm. Discussion topics will be GG Park related concerts, crime and traffic issues/open agenda. Refreshments will be served at both meetings. The meetings will be held at Richmond Station.
NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 09/12 at 2:45pm, officers responded to the area of Prayer Book Cross near Transverse and JFK Drive inside Golden Gate Park. The caller reported that a male, wearing a pair of shorts, who appeared to be all wet from swimming, had made a lewd comment to her. Officers located the suspect dripping wet and said he had been in the water meditating. The suspect admitted to make the lewd comment and admitted it was “dumb.” The 21 year old was charged with a park code violation.
On 09/13 at 10:20am, plainclothes officers received information that two males, both on parole, were in the area of 17th Ave and Geary. The officers had information that one of the males was armed with a handgun. The suspects were located on the corner and one of them was in possession of an air soft handgun that from the size and weight looked like a .45 caliber handgun. It was also determined that this suspect was driving a stolen vehicle. The 27 year old male was charged with a parole violation warrant, possession of stolen property and possession of a BB gun.
On 09/13 at 10:30am, an intoxicated male made his way into the kitchen of 1000 Great Highway and was demanding free food. The staff was able to escort him out, and they notified the police of the incident. The officer located the suspect at Fulton and LaPlaya and attempted to detain him. The 52 year old male told the officer that he was “exercising my right to free food.” The officer told the suspect to place his sleeping bag and backpack on the ground and after refusing several times, he finally complied. Upon dropping his backpack, the suspect immediately balled his fist and took a fighting stance. The officer took the suspect’s wrist to prevent the male from striking him and the suspect continued to resist. Other officers arrived on scene and helped detain the male. He was charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest.
On 09/15 at 1:52am, officers responded to a call of a woman screaming for help in the area of Pierce and Scott Sts. Officers located the female and provided a description of the suspect to responding officers. It was determined that the two had met earlier in the evening and came back to the victim’s home. While at the home an argument occurred and the victim told the suspect to leave. As he was exiting the victim noticed her laptop tucked into the back of the suspect’s pants. The victim grabbed her laptop and went back into her residence and locked the door. A moment later the suspect was back, pounding at her door, demanding his phone. When the victim said she didn’t know what he was talking about, he kicked the front door in, striking the victim in the face as it flew open. The suspect fled but was detained by officers a block away. The 22 year old male was charged with robbery and aggravated assault.

On 09/14 at 1:20pm, the victim was standing on the 5300 block of Geary Bl when the suspect asked him to borrow his cell phone to make a call. The victim complied and after a moment the suspect walked off with the phone. The victim began to follow him, but decided against it as he didn’t want to have a confrontation. Shortly after, the victim’s girlfriend arrived to pick him up and said that she had gotten repeated phone calls from the victims’ phone that were vulgar in nature. The suspect was described as a male, 20-30 years of age wearing a black sweat suit with a red stripe.

He was described as a male 20-25 years of age wearing a purple t-shirt.

Great work, but I’m confused….is it illegal to own a BB-gun these days?
If so..geez…good-bye America.
Hopefully it’s a badly worded piece or, owning a BB gun just might be illegal in SF, I wouldn’t be surprised at all.
no it’s true, SFPD considers bb guns illegal (even though that is at odds with state law) http://blogs.sfweekly.com/thesnitch/2009/11/police_still_enforcing_obsolet.php
