Someone’s made their nest up in the tower of Roosevelt School on Arguello at Clement. I didn’t have binoculars but I think I saw some movement up there. I’ll have to rely on the birders out there to find out more. I wonder what the rent is for such a high-rise view in the Richmond District? 😉
Thanks to Woody (not the woodpecker) for the tip.

I noticed a nest there a couple of years or so ago. Don’t know if it’s the same one.
Roosevelt is my favorite building in the Richmond. The height of the building, the brickwork, and the broad sidewalk makes walking past it a treat– really feels like another place.
I went to school there. The rumor with us kids then was that the tower was haunted. Somebody claimed they saw a ghost up there. I think there is a room in that tower but have never been in it.
I’ve been up there! Went up during an after-school event with my brother. Somehow the door was unlocked. As I recall, the tower is hollow and empty with a ladder going up to the roof. Nothing special inside, just a century’s worth of grime. I’m thinking there was one additional floor in the middle, but it’s been a long time. Fantastic view, of course.
Sometimes it pays to know the troublemaking kids!
In our housing crunch, I innitially thought squatters not birds. Lol. I thought that was a feat!
