Police Blotter – June 22, 2012

CAPTAIN SHARON FERRIGNO’S MESSAGE
I had a very busy week settling in and getting the lay of the land. I went out with staff and neighbors to visit the many treasures that our district is home to and we worked together to implement a few measures to increase safety and awareness for our residents and visitors. Please take note of the electronic sign boards we have placed in key locations to remind visitors not to leave valuables in their cars or trunks. We are working on everything from traffic calming measures to enforcement plans to make sure that we maintain the safety and beauty of our district.

This week is all about change and gratitude here at Richmond Police Station. I would like to congratulate retiring Lieutenants, Louis Espinda and Arthur Borges. Both Art and Lou, served our district and our city well and I congratulate them both on a job well done. Art and Lou we wish you all the best, long life, good health and great joy in the next chapter of your lives.

Richmond Station welcomes newly promoted Lieutenants, Debbie Gizdich, Pete Walsh, Una Baily and Sergeants, Mike Murphy, Maureen Leonard, Dennis Toomer and Leonard Cueba, all of whom bring with them of wealth of professional experience that has already proven to be a tremendous asset.

Our next Community meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 7pm. It will be in the Community Room, here at Richmond Station, 461 6th Ave.

NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 06/15/12 at 1:20am, a patron was asked to close out his tab and leave a bar on the 3900 block of Geary. The patron was creating a disturbance and fighting with others inside. The victim told the patron to “be cool” and the patron swung at him and kicked him in the shin. The patron then bit the victim in the arm, causing a large laceration and bruising. The 22 year old male was charged with battery causing serious injury and being under the influence.

On 06/15/12 at 9:20pm, officers were called to a report of a vandalism at a parking lot on the Great Highway. The victim told the officers that she had met the male suspect earlier in the day at 850 Bryant St. They decided to hang out and along with another female drove to various destinations in the City, ending up at Ocean Beach . The suspect became drink and belligerent and when the females rebuffed his sexual advances, he broke out a window in the victim’s vehicle. He also threatened to harm both girls. The 24 year old male, who is on parole, was charged with threats, vandalism and a parole violation.

On 06/17/12 at 1pm, plainclothes officers responded to a call of a male looking into parked vehicles in the area of MLK Drive near 9th Ave. Based on the suspect’s description, the officers knew who the suspect was as he had been arrested in the same area in the past for breaking into cars. Officers located the suspect on Lincoln Way near Kezar Drive as he was looking into car windows. The suspect then entered his own vehicle and left the area. A patrol unit stopped the vehicle and conducted a search as the suspect is on probation. The officers located a spark plug with an elastic cord affixed to it. Spark plugs are commonly used to shatter window of vehicles. The 26 year old male was charged with being in possession of burglary tools.

NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
Between 06/15/12, 6pm and 06/17/12, 12pm on the 500 block of 21st Ave , a suspect gained entry into a garage and took a bike. There was no forced entry.

Between 06/15/12, 10pm and 06/20/12, 9:30am on the 1700 block of Clement St, four bikes were taken from an apartment building garage. There were no signs of forced entry.

On 06/16/12 at 7:12pm on the 2400 block of Post St , a female suspect entered a store with a 4 or 5 year old child. The suspect took two bottles of alcohol and left the store without paying. The employee chased the suspect, who threw one of the bottles at him, hitting the victim in the chest. The second bottle was left on the ground. The suspect fled with the child west on Post St . When the employee went back to the store, he reviewed his surveillance video and saw that while he was gone another suspect came into the business and took cash from the tip jar. The female was described as a black female28 years old wearing a white shirt and white pants. The male was described as a black male, 35yrs wearing a gray t-shirt, blue jeans with a white belt. He also had tattoos on both arms.

On 06/19/12, between 8:40am and 7pm on the 100 block of 11th Ave , a suspect gained entry into an apartment building by unknown means. Once inside, the suspect pried open one of the apartment doors and took camera equipment, jewelry and a laptop.

Between 06/20/12, 5pm and 06/21/12, 12:40pm on the 2200 block of Post St , the suspect entered an office building and gained access into an office. A statue in the hallway of the office was taken.

On 06/21/12, a package was delivered to a residence on the 300 block of 10th Ave. It was left on the stoop of the home and when the homeowner went to retrieve it, it was gone. This occurred between 9:42am and 7:30pm. The package contained a laptop.
