“&th” Avenue and Lake

Whoops! Looks like a curb stamper got distracted or confused at the corner of 8th Avenue and Lake! I guess if you pronounce it “Andth Avenue” it almost sounds like 8th… 🙂 Thanks to reader Ian for sending in the pic.

  1. I bet they know how to spell “pension” and “overtime”, though

  2. Oooh, Claudia, I know the *type*, but hmm, I guess you were talking about spelling.

For my money, I will go with “Ampersandth” Ave.

  3. They are taking way too long to do this. I see people walking in the street and almost getting killed. How about actually fixing the potholes and cracks in the sidewalk for those with feet.

  4. Route53…RIGHT ON!
You’d think the city would be concerned about injured pedestrian lawsuits against them for all the deteriorating streets, and start fixing these potholes (and not making speedbumps in the process). Homeless people unite (& earn your free handouts)!

Anyone been down 32nd AVE in front of the Fresh & Easy market lately!?!
…A prime example of a ravaged road.
Oh, I forgot…that business is non-union, so is this the city’s way of saying F-U to them.
Where are San Franpsycho’s lofty real-estate taxes going?!?
…to that miscreant who knows how to spell ‘&th AVE’.

Oh, btw…the city just had a major pro golf event (namely for the largely wealthy bored 1%), so, it behooved them to repair and repave the road on Skyline, just outside the Olympic Golf Club (it sure looks and feels nice), but when it comes to The Great Highway…hahah…might as well give it back to the sea.
    Wait…that’s already happening, isn’t it…oh well.
Hope the rest of the scum that pretends to manage SF washes out with it.

  5. My, my, such vitriol!

I’d rather think that the contractor was being creative…that is, perhaps he looked in his bag and realized he didn’t have an *8* so, since the concrete was setting, and won’t wait for anything in this world to continue setting, the worker did the next best thing and used an ampersand. Brilliant! This is at least plausible, no?

  6. You should hire this contractor for any number of projects you may be wanting to accomplish and when, say, for example, you need a new toilet installed, and after you’ve paid him your sparse, hard-earned money in advance to meet your expectations, you can spew your own vitriol out a cardboard tube running into your butt because that’s all he happened to have on hand to accomplish the job for which he was hired.

This isn’t some whimsical art project. Do your job. Label the streets. Fix the potholes.

  7. Right across Lake Street form the & is a #8, so they had one, they just opted not to use it. Also across the street is the word “Lake” stamped with an upside-down #7 for the “L”, but on the same corner as the & is a capital L… maybe they were just trying to save time and so 2 people did both corners at the same time and with only one 8 and one capital L they substituted thinking that nobody would notice.

  8. There are a bunch of these around…old ones like 22th Ave. I can’t recall the exact aves, but they are around. If you walk around, check them out. What people write in the cement is also entertaining.

Nothing beat “Park Presido” at California though. That was my all time favorite. Should have taken a pic.

I hope they have more errors. I find it amusing. But NO on the lowercase street signs!
