Police Blotter – June 29, 2012

Please remember to secure your garage doors and tradesmen alleys. Bicycle thieves are finding their way into garages and tradesmen alley doors. Please work with your neighbors, Project SAFE, landlords and property management to strengthen door locks. Project SAFE has guidelines to assist you in choosing a secure mechanism to keep intruders out. Please contact them at 415-673-SAFE.

We are reaching out to the promoters of Outside Lands and asking them to speak at our July 17th Community meeting regarding neighbor concerns and updates on any changes to the music festival. Stay tuned for updates.

Our next Community meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 7pm. It will be in the Community Room, here at Richmond Station, 461 6th Ave.

NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 06/26/12 at 5:48am on the 2500 of McAllister, a resident of a home was awakened by his bedroom door opening. When he stirred, the door shut. He initially thought it was one of his roommates but within minutes heard banging coming from his storage unit, directly under his bedroom. He looked out his window and saw the suspect walking away from his building with his roommate’s skis. He yelled out to his roommates to call 911, grabbed his cell phone and chased after the suspect. He caught up with the suspect at Stanyan and Fulton and grabbed her by the arm and told her not to leave. She complied with his request and police arrived on scene and took her into custody. It was determined that the door lock to the storage area was inoperative and could be pushed open. It is unknown how access was gained into the residence. The suspect, a 30 year old female was charged with burglary.

On 06/27/12 at 7:40am, plainclothes officers were conducting a surveillance on a home with a large amount of criminal activity. They observed the suspect leave the residence on a bike and stop at a store on the 5600 block of Geary. The officers stopped to talk to the suspect and asked where he had purchased the bike. The suspect said he bought it at a garage sale for $100.00. The officers noticed a bicycle parking permit on the bike for a local hospital and contacted the public safety office. They were able to determine the owner of the bike and told the officers he had in fact reported it stolen. Officers made contact with the owner of the bike and he told them it had been stolen from his garage on the 1200 block of 20th Ave back on May 10, 2012. The suspect, a 51 year old male was charged with possession of stolen property and the bike was returned to its owner.

On 06/27/12 at 9:30pm, a vehicle traveling south on 500 block of 43rd struck a parked vehicle. The vehicle continued south, hit a hedge then continued on, striking a second parked vehicle. That collision caused the second parked vehicle to roll over the curb and strike a home. The driver of the first vehicle, a 60 year old male, was determined to be driving under the influence and charged accordingly.

NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
On 06/21/12 at 4pm on the 100 block of 6th Ave, the victim parked his car in front of his home, forgetting to lock his door. At some point during the night, the suspect entered the vehicle and took the garage remote and entered the garage. The suspect took a bike.

Between 06/22/12, 10pm and 06/23/12, 1pm on the 200 block of Arguello, the suspect pried open the side door to a garage and took a bike.

On 06/23/12 between 1pm and 1:05pm, the victim was in the supermarket at 7th Ave and Cabrillo. His vehicle was parked in the lot with his bike affixed to an exterior rack. While he was gone, the suspect took his bike.

Between 06/25/12, 5pm and 06/27/12, 10am on the 600 block of Arguello, a suspect entered a garage and broke into a vehicle parked inside. The loss from the vehicle was $5.00 in change. The suspect also took a bike belonging to another tenant. There were no signs of forced entry into the garage.

Between 06/26/12, 7:30pm and 06/27/12, 8:30am, the suspect entered a garage by unknown means. The suspect broke a window of a vehicle parked inside, but there was no loss.
