CAPTAIN SHARON FERRIGNO’S MESSAGE
On Tuesday night officers from Richmond Station responded to the home of a man suspected of firing a gun into his neighbor’s apartment. When officers contacted the man he barricaded himself in his home and announced that he was suicidal and had a gun. We evacuated the immediate area to insure the safety of those who live near by. Because of the cooperation we received by the many affected residents, we were able to end this incident quickly and get him to the hospital. Your cooperation in events like this makes all the difference. Neighbors afforded us the opportunity to use their space to set up command which resulted in our ultimate goal of a peaceful resolution. Thank you!

Later that night officers tracked down and arrested three subjects armed with a gun and wanted for robbery. This was no easy feat as they needed to coordinate their response with other police districts. Congratulations on a great job!

While the newsletter was on vacation, a home invasion robbery occurred on the 500 block of 40th Ave on January 3rd. The suspects entered the homes and took items from the 8 victims that were inside. The suspects were armed with handguns and a knife. The investigation in this incident is being handled by the Criminal Investigation Unit and when we are able, we will provide an update. None of the victims were injured.

We were contacted by security from Penske Motor Group who asked that we share information regarding an auto burglary that occurred on January 5, 2013 between 9:30am and 6:30pm. A suspect entered a vehicle that was parked in the alleyway off of Clement and 39th Ave and took a black bag that contained numerous personnel files of a local business that had sensitive personal information. There is a reward being offered. If you have any information or can help in getting the files returned, please contact Chip at tips@penskemotorgroup.com.

Our next Community meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 6pm. It will be in the Community Room, here at Richmond Station, 461 6th Ave. (NOTE TIME CHANGE)

  1. Thanks so much for more info about Tuesday. It was rather scary seeing cops running with rifles and SWAT lined up half a block from my house. So glad no one was injured and the worst part was a few hours of inconvenience.

  2. May I just add that I heard of four crimes this week. 1. riding on the Bus 9 from downtown towards Silver, African American kid was bragging how he saw two black guys snatching a cell phone on the bus and running out of the bus, one guy distracting the other guy by pulling his pants up. This bragger said he did the same thing and running the same alley. The bragger was laughing the whole time with his friends on the bus, in a @#$ public bus. Is crime so funny? What happened to right and wrong? 2. a lady on the same bus said she saw someone snatching a girl’s cell phone on the Polk 19 bus from behind and running out of the bus. 3. a lady waiting for bus at 6:15 am at 46th Ave and Taraval was approach by a black guy saying “hi” to her, then he asked for her purse, when she didn’t comply, he pulled out a gun and got in a car and off he went. The lady was Chinese. 4. Oakland, a Chinese lady was ringing the doorbell of her relative’s home, a guy approached her and got her to walk over to her husband who was waiting for her in the car. The guy mugged them and carjacked their car. It is so sad that in one week I heard four different brazen crime stories, and not even on TV. Crime is all around us. Please be aware of your surroundings. Please report any suspicious activities.

  3. Great advice Toby. Everyone should totally be aware of their surroudnings. If something seems out of the norm don’t go into your residence.

I’m glad that SFPD is making some progress within the area with regards to robberies. Now I hope that they catch the scum that has targeted a number of homes in the area.

The city should have some sort of a txt line to report crime such as car theft and breakings. Crime is gonna happen anywhere but if the community doesn’t work together even a district such as this may end up like Oakland.
