Richmond Station Investigations Lieutenant, Thomas Feledy and his team, have been tracking the serial numbers of stolen property listed in police reports. There are many resources the police department has in an attempt to return items to their owners. Many of you, when making a report either online or with an officer do not have your serial numbers handy. I am reaching out to individuals who have filed police reports for incidents that have occurred in the Richmond District in the past 3 months. If you now have your serial numbers please email Lieutenant Feledy at Thomas.Feledy@sfgov.org and also include your case number.
Please take the time to jot down your serial numbers for your valuables. in catching offenders and A great way to file those serial numbers is to simply email them to yourself and then you can keep it indefinitely.

NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 03/15/13 at 9:45am, officers responded to a call of a male, using some type of tool to take out money from the collection box from a church at 8th and Geary. Officers searched the interior and found the suspect hiding in a stairway. Officer located a piece of a wire coat hanger in his rear pocket along with some cash. The 52yr old male, who had been arrested numerous times in the past for similar incidents, was charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools.
On 03/16/13 at 5:20am, an officer responded to a call of 5 males, trying door handles on vehicles parked in the area of Lake and 7th Ave. As the officer traveled west on Lake St, passing 5th Ave, he heard a male shouting towards his direction. The officer could see a man waving his arms yelling, “They’re running over there!” The male was pointing north on 5th Ave and as the officer drove down 5th, he saw two males go around the cement barrier at the dead end, and run east on West Pacific Ave. The officer pursued the males on foot, eventually catching one of them. Other officers had responded to assist, but were unable to locate the second male. Officers interviewed the male who stated that he had left his home to get coffee and heard a loud thumping noise. He couldn’t find the source and continued on his way. He returned a short time later traveling west on Lake to north on 5th Ave. Waiting at the stop sign on 5th, facing south was a silver SUV. He noticed as he turned that both tires on the driver’s side were blown. He became suspicious of the vehicle and its occupants and then noticed the patrol car traveling west. As the male exited his vehicle to flag down the officer, the two males from the SUV exited and fled north on 5th Ave. The male was unable to identify the suspect the officers detained as an occupant of the SUV. The suspect, who was 16yrs, was charged with being in possession of narcotics and released to his parents. Officers had been sent to the address from where the SUV was registered, but got no response. Several hours later, the owner of the SUV did contact the police to advise that her vehicle had in fact been stolen.
On 03/16/13 at 5pm, plainclothes officers were in the area of Fulton and 2nd Ave, when they observed a male, riding a bicycle on the sidewalk look into the windows of parked vehicles as he passed. Officers detained the male and when asked if he was in possession of any weapons, he told the officers that he had a knife in his pocket. Officers removed the knife and a clear bag fell to the ground. Officers determined that the substance inside was methamphetamine. The 39 year old male was charged with a narcotic violation as well as numerous outstanding warrants.
On 03/17/13 at 7:15pm, patrol officers were stopped at a red light, west bound on Geary at 12th Ave in the #3 lane. The officers observed two males on mopeds, also traveling west on Geary, from behind them, split the traffic between the #1 and #2 lanes, run the red light, west on Geary and made a u-turn into the parking lot at 11th and Geary Bl. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the two drivers, both of whom had alcohol on their breath and were unsteady on their feet. Both drivers failed the breathalyzer and field sobriety tests. The two males, 26 and 29 yrs, were charged with driving under the influence.
On 03/17/13 at 8:40pm, officers responded to a call of a vehicle accident on California St at 14th Ave. Officers observed one vehicle entire right side, completely sitting against the left side of the vehicle it had contacted. The passenger in the first vehicle had to climb out of the window to exit, and the driver of the second vehicle had to climb over to his passenger side to exit. The driver of the first vehicle appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and when asked if he had been drinking, he replied “Yes.” The driver agreed to perform the field sobriety tests and after failing the “walk and turn test” he turned his back towards the officer, placed his arms behind his back and said, “cuff me, I’m done.” The 32 year old male was charged with driving under the influence.
On 03/18/13 at 12am, officers responded to a call of two males doing graffiti on the side of a home at 36th and Balboa. Officers arrived and detained the two, both of whom had backpacks full of spray paint cans and paint on their hands. The two males, 22 and 27 yrs, were charged with vandalism.
NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
On 03/14/13, an 84 year old man received a phone call from a young man who he thought to be his 19yr old grandson. He knew is grandson had been traveling out of the country. The young man told him he had been arrested in Los Angeles and needed money. He also said he would have his court appointed attorney call him and not to tell his parents. An hour later he got a call from the “attorney” who instructed the victim to send a money gram to Lebanon. The grandfather wired $2900 as told. Later that night he spoke with his son and inquired as to the whereabouts of his grandson and was told he was still out of the country. Knowing he had been scammed, he told his son what had occurred. He did get a second call the following day from the “grandson” needing more money for hospital bills; however he did not send it.
Between 03/14/13, 5pm and 03/18/13, 3:30pm on the 3800 block of Balboa, a suspect removed a portion of a copper drain pipe from the school.
On 03/16/13 at 12:50am, officers met with the SFFD on a report of arson on the 400 block of 28th Ave. An unknown suspect had set a porta-potty on fire and a car that was parked nearby was also damaged.
On 03/17/13 at 5:40am, on the 2500 block of Post St, the victim was awoken to a loud noise and ran towards the front of his house. He noticed that his window into his residence had been broken and a laptop that had been sitting at his desk near the window was now missing. The hole in the window was only big enough for someone to reach in and not to climb through.
On 03/18/13 at 6:45am, the victim was walking east on Balboa, crossing 21st Ave. As she got to the sidewalk she
saw a darker blue van stopped at the stop sign. She suddenly felt something hit the side of her face and when she looked at the ground, she saw an egg splattered on the sidewalk. The van continued past her with the passenger laughing. While the officer was there, another person approached him and said that the van was a dark blue Honda or Toyota with a ski or luggage rack on top.
On 03/18/13 at 6:55am, officers were called to do a well being check on a male that was standing in front of a bus at
33rd and Clement, preventing its movement. Officers arrived on scene and detained three males, two of whom were helping their intoxicated friend out of the street. One of the officers, who had just been at the call of the woman being hit by an egg, noticed a dark blue van with a luggage rack double parked and an egg carton on the center console. The van belonged to one of the three detained. The officer made several attempts to reach the victim from Balboa and 21st but was unsuccessful. The three males were identified and released.
Between 03/19/13, 6pm and 03/20/13, 7am on the 700 block of 28th Ave, a suspect gained entry into a garage by unknown means luggage and clothing.
On 03/20/13 at 9:48am, officers were sent to an alarm call on the 2700 block of Sutter. The officers saw that the front door had been kicked in and the house was ransacked. The suspect took a laptop, game system and jewelry.
