The winning sand sculpture from Rooftop Elementary School
The 2014 LEAP Sandcastle Contest took place on Ocean Beach last Saturday. The contest pairs elementary school classes with professional contractors, engineers and architects to design a sandcastle that gets built on the day of the event.
The theme this year was “Food, Glorious Food” and after touring the sand sculptures, it was clear what’s on the mind of hungry kids – pizza, hamburgers, candy and ice cream. Not to mention sculptures of a few porky pigs meeting their demise.
Rooftop Elementary School took top honors this year for their Candyland sand sculpture. We also liked the “Food Map of San Francisco” by Skyline Elementary of Daly City which showcased the known foods of different city neighborhoods such as pizza for North Beach, a taco for the Mission, and sushi for Japantown.
Congratulations to all the schools and businesses that participated – it was another great year!
