Photo: SUV charred by porta-pottie arsonist

On Valentine’s Day a 3:07pm, someone set a porta-pottie on fire on 10th Avenue. The car parked next to it also suffered fire damage.

This isn’t the first time an arsonist has targeted porta-potties. Since 2008, this has been an ongoing problem across the city.

According to Hoodline, 27 portable toilets were set on fire across San Francisco between late 2008 and fall 2009. At the time, police arrested a 62 year-old homeless woman but she was never convicted.

In 2012, a similar rash of porta-pottie fires occurred, but no one was arrested and police are still unsure if it was the same arsonist from the 2008-2009 spree.

And most recently in January, one was burned down on Divisadero Street.

Who knows whether this is the same person or a copycat but the problem doesn’t seem to be going away. In the meantime, be mindful of where you park…

  1. “At the time, police arrested a 62 year-old homeless woman but she was never convicted.” Sigh. Just like the troglodyte destroying trees in GG Park – there’s a likely suspect, who’s even been prosecuted before… but nevertheless they’re out there still causing damage while the authorities wring their hands about what they can do.

  2. oh no! What about the porta potty in California & 12th? We need to keep our eyes on that one!

  3. How kind of some non-concerned resident to drop their pink plastic bag of household refuse into a crime scene.
