Photos: SUV plows over a fire hydrant at 6th & Lake

On Saturday around 11am, a SUV backed over a fire hydrant, resulting in a flooded mess.

Witnesses report the woman driving the SUV said she got in her car, started it up, and the next thing she knew she had backed over the hydrant.

Water flooded out for about an hour until SFFD could move the car and cap the hydrant. Nobody was injured in the incident.

  1. wasn’t this the same intersection of the great sinkhole of ’14?

  2. That’s just a few feet from the sinkhole. You can still see the fresh roadwork.

  3. Oh god this corner is going to become like the Bermuda Triangle, all sorts of odd things happening lol

  4. It is awesome to live in a neighborhood where this is news.

  5. It would be interesting to know if the driver got a ticket for damaging public property (the hydrant) or at least for parking on the sidewalk. Good chance she’ll get neither since this all happened north of California and sometimes the rules are different up there. Will she get a “pass” on any liability/fine? I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s all forgotten due to affluenza, certainly rampant in that neck of the ‘hood.

  6. It’s a Hyundai. That’s not exactly a Bentley from “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous”.

  7. The SUV/car was probably leased as well. We all know how well “renters” take care of things.

  8. If she wanted to wash her car they make a thing called a car wash.

  9. How on earth do you manage to get your car into that position?

  10. @Magdalena
It’s easy to park like that. Just turn on the ignition, put your vehicle in reverse, and look at your cellphone screen while you press on the accelerator pedal. Voila!

  11. Thank the tiny Jesus there were no pedestrians around this menace. Can we please ask that the driver be required to demonstrate minimal competence to retain their license?
