THREATS WITH A HATCHET
05-01-2015 6:39 AM
LaPlaya & Fulton
A store security guard told a suspicious person to leave the store. The guard followed the suspect to the parking lot to escort him off the premises at which point the suspect produced a hatchet and threatened to chop off the guard’s leg. The suspect then fled into Golden Gate Park.
Suspect: Black male, 50-55 years old, 5’8” 225 lbs, wearing an orange T-shirt, black pants.

POSSESSION OF AN AIR GUN
05-01-2015 9:30 AM
Local School
School staff discovered that a 12 year old student was in possession of an air gun that fires a plastic projectile. The realistic looking “toy” gun had the required orange tip, but the tip had been partially colored black with a permanent marker.
Captain’s Note: I posted a photo of the air gun on Twitter (@SFPDRichmond) so you can see that this “toy” looks just like a real gun from many angles.

A motorcyclist was southbound on Park Presidio approaching California at an unsafe speed. Traffic in front of him slowed for a red light and the motorcycle struck the rear of a car causing minor injury to the motorcyclist.

ARREST: ROBBERY VIA FORCE
05-02-2015 3:12 PM
California & Presidio
The victim (who was 8 months pregnant) had just gotten off the bus when suspect #1 ran up and began tugging on her purse so hard that she was dragged to the ground. The suspect then gave up and jumped into the getaway car driven by suspect #2. An alert witness took photos of the car and the occupants and gave this information to responding officers. Investigators from Richmond Station used this information to arrest the suspects in the East Bay.

ARREST: DUI / STOLEN CAR
05-02-2015 9:08 PM
Geary & 9th Ave
Several people called 911 to report a reckless driver. Responding officers found the car unoccupied, but a witness pointed out the driver of the car who was staggering nearby. Officers found him to be under the influence of alcohol and arrested him for DUI. Through further investigation, officers determined that the car was stolen.

ARREST: STOLEN CAR / STOLEN PROPERTY / NARCOTICS PARAPHERNALIA
05-02-2015 11:15 PM
Divisadero & Pacific
The victim discovered that his car was missing and began tracking it using a device installed on the car paired with an app on his phone. He directed officers to the car and they found it parked with two people sitting in it. The suspects had attached a stolen license plate to the car and were in possession of stolen property plus a pipe used for smoking methamphetamine.

THEFT USING ATM CARD
05-03-2015 3:55 PM
California & Spruce
The victim was using an ATM when he felt the suspect was standing too close to him. He hurriedly stepped away from the ATM but then realized that he had not closed out his ATM session. He returned to see the suspect standing at the ATM he had just been using. When he later checked his account he found an unauthorized withdrawal from his account at that same ATM – presumably by the suspect.
Captain’s Note: Make certain to completely close out your ATM session before stepping away. If someone nearby is making you uncomfortable don’t withdraw cash. Cancel your transaction, leave and call the SFPD right away.

05-04-2015 8:33 PM

The suspect had 6 warrants for his arrest on charges including burglary, possession of stolen property, auto theft, and grand theft.

TRAFFIC COLLISION WITH INJURY

TRAFFIC COLLISION WITH INJURY
05-07-2015 1:15 PM
Fulton & 32nd Ave
An 18 year old pedestrian was crossing Fulton at 32nd Ave in the east crosswalk. Cars in the curb lane stopped and she began to cross. A Honda minivan heading westbound failed to yield to her and struck her in the crosswalk. She sustained major injuries and remains hospitalized.

Speed Enforcement On Fulton:
The officers of Richmond Station regularly write citations for speeding and for failing to yield to pedestrians all along Fulton. Four of the district’s top 10 intersections for injury collisions are on Fulton. I am particularly concerned about the safety of pedestrians near the Senior Center at Fulton & 37th Ave.

Some people have called our enforcement efforts at Fulton & 37th Ave a “speed trap” because the speed limit is reduced from 30 MPH to 25 MPH in that block. The data below show that the slowest offender (who was cited for 41 MPH) in the so called “speed trap” 25 MPH zone was significantly exceeding the speed limit even if he thought he was still in the 30 MPH zone. That doesn’t seem like a “trap” to me.

Citations for Speeding on Fulton 05-01-2015 to 05-8-2015:

25 MPH zone
AVERAGE speed cited: 42 MPH (68% faster than the posted limit)
LOWEST speed cited: 41 MPH

30 MPH zone
AVERAGE speed cited: 45 MPH (50% faster than the posted limit)
LOWEST speed cited: 43 MPH

  1. What was going on near Geary and 9th on May 6th? I was on the 38 and saw 3 fire trucks and 4 police cars. I don’t expect to see every incident listed, just figured one with that much response would’ve made the blotter.

Thanks for the blotter, btw, I obviously enjoy it 🙂

  2. Our house was robbed early AM Easter morning and the robbers came back the next night (after we had rushed home from being away for the night) and came into our house with a key they stole. None of that made the blotter which I thought was kind of strange since it seemed like a big deal (at least to us) and probably important information for the neighborhood to know that these things happen. Not sure how they determine what “makes the blotter” or not.

  3. With the ATM theft incident… I’ve always been paranoid about that. I’ve gotten into the habit of always getting a receipt now, as almost all ATMs will only print receipts once all transactions are done. It’s my indicator now that I definitely didn’t leave the ATM stills “logged in” to my account.

I wish they’d make it more clear when you’re logged out otherwise. In this day, it even seems crazy that there isn’t some button to help call the police or other sort of “panic” type button.

  4. Even more speed / right of way enforcement on fulton PLEASE.
    Love it, and much needed.

Thanks for protecting other drivers and pedestrians.

Summary data for tickets on fulton appreciated, any other summary data that could be worked into the regular newsletter with year/year comparisons?

  5. Yes, what R R said – more enforcement of speeding and not yielding to pedestrians in the Outer Richmond on Geary, if at all possible. People just will not stop!

  6. The people who bitch about “speed traps” are very likely the same idiotswhose lousy driving has forced the escalation of marked crosswalks to intersections with stop signs to intersections with stop lights. I didnt witness the pedestrian getting hit by a minivan, but I’m sure it happened because the driver interest the intersection and rounded through it while turning left. I see this behavior ALL THE TIME now: drivers barely slow the hell down as they turn. Pedestrians do not stand a chance.

  7. I literally had to wave my canvas grocery bag over my head the other day, to get people to slow down for me. They are so happy to breeze by you, just to save that extra fifteen seconds. I don’t know how we got to the point, as a society, where it seems like more people will not stop for a pedestrian than will.

  8. As for the 18-year-old girl who is a resident of the Richmond District and Washington High student she is doing fine and was not admitted overnight to the hospital. Banged up and might have a concussion though, she has no memory of the event. Still waiting for results of accident police report.

  9. Regardless of the crosswalks, I never ever attempt to cross Geary, but especially not Fulton, without a signal, and even then I wait as people regularly blow the reds. The crosswalks mean nothing, you’re just walking into traffic. Pass it on, I think newer and younger residents are unaware -may that young person make a total recovery.
