Interested in helping rebuild the Lands End labyrinth which was recently vandalized and erased?
Labyrinth caretaker Colleen Yerge has announced that the rebuild will take place on Sunday, September 13 starting at 10am:
-
Please bring water, a snack for yourself, a jacket, sunscreen, a backpack to carry rocks (depending on the turnout you might not have to carry too many rocks after all), your intention and a smile.
The location is at the Lands End Labyrinth. Bring a rock with you or if you don’t have one, you can get them at Mile Rock Beach which is just below the labryinth.
That is the same Sunday as the Jog in the Fog 5k fun run/walk, which begins in Mountain Lake Park at 8am and finishes at Lands End (USS Memorial Parking lot). So if you want to make it a full community morning, register for the race and head over to help with the rebuild from the finish line. 🙂

I saw some pictures of the labyrinth over the weekend and noticed that some people have sort of redesigned it. Instead of the maze like design, the rocks are now placed in a circular cyclone like pattern.
My question is now that there is something there and this is a public land/art installation, will those rocks be removed and replaced with the labyrinth again? Or should we leave it there since someone took the time and effort to build it?
@Mark – A labyrinth has a very specific purpose and historically, that is what it has been. It’s more than just something nice to look at, people do make trips there to interact with the labyrinth. So while it’s nice that someone made an effort to install another nice work there, I think it’s important to have the labyrinth back in place. Based on people’s reactions here on the blog, I think there are a lot of people who value it being there. 🙂
I’ll be there to help!
