SFPD Richmond District Police Station
Weekly Update 09-11-2015
From Captain Simon Silverman
Richmond Station’s Community Police Advisory Board is seeking new members:
If you are interested in becoming a member of Richmond District Police Station’s Community Police Advisory Board (CPAB), please attend an informational meeting Wednesday September 16, 2015 at 7:00 PM at Richmond Station (461 6th Ave). The CPAB is a group of civilian volunteers who live and/or work in the district. During monthly CPAB meetings, members share information and observations from their respective communities. They advise the station captain about crime and quality of life issues affecting the district.
E-mail Vacation Notification:
Each week, right after I hit the “send” button on the e-mail newsletter I get dozens of automatic replies from recipients who are away. Sometimes a reply gives out too much information such as, “I’m in Antarctica for a month and will answer your e-mail when I get home.”
It’s best to say something that doesn’t reveal that your home is vacant because not everyone on the internet is an honest person. (Of course I’m not referring to that nice gentleman who e-mailed you when you won the Galapagos Lottery. He legitimately needed your social security number and bank account information so he could wire you the money).
Here are some of the incidents that occurred in the Richmond Police District this week:
LOST PARROT
09/02/2015 9:00 PM
California & 17th Ave
A resident reported that she was on her porch with her African Grey Parrot “Zeke” on her shoulder when he was startled and flew away. Since then, several people have reported seeing a homeless person with a parrot in the area, although there is no confirmation that this is Zeke. Online listing for Zeke
Captain’s Note: An African Grey Parrot is, as you might expect, mostly grey with red feathers underneath its tail and a black-bill. Please call us if you see Zeke, we’d like to get him home safely.
ROBBERY

The victim was walking alone when 6 suspects surrounded him. Several of the suspects started pushing him and demanding his iPhone and property. Fearing for his safety, the victim complied at which point the suspects ordered him to reveal the phone’s pass code and to disable the feature that allows tracking of the phone.

HIT & RUN RESULTING IN THE DEATH OF A DOG
09/04/2015 2:26 PM
California & Lyon
The owner of the dog told officers that her dog got loose and she was chasing him down the sidewalk when he ran into the street and was struck and killed by a car. The car stopped briefly and then drove off.
Captain’s Note: Although the driver of the car would probably not have been found at fault for the collision, it is still a violation to leave the scene.
ARREST: WARRANT FOR FELONY ASSAULT
09/04/2015 3:35 PM
Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park
A family was enjoying an afternoon in the park when the suspect began following them and behaving strangely. SFPD officers detained the suspect who had a felony warrant for assault with a deadly weapon.
ARREST: DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
09/05/2015 11:14 PM
Geary & 5th Ave
A sergeant on patrol saw a bicyclist riding west on Geary in the center lane run the red light at 5th Ave. He stopped the rider who smelled strongly of alcohol and who admitted to having “several drinks.” The cyclist performed poorly on field sobriety tests and his preliminary screening results showed a blood alcohol level of just over 0.17%.
Captain’s Note: There is a specific section of the California vehicle code making it illegal to ride a bike on a public roadway while intoxicated.
ARREST: GRAFFITI
09/07/2015 2:47 AM
Geary & Arguello
An officer on patrol saw the suspect (a 36 year old man) writing on the wall of a business with a large permanent marker. He walked up to the suspect who, upon seeing the uniformed police officer, blurted out, “I’m an artist.” Officers checked the area and found several examples of the artist’s earlier, lesser known work.
Captain’s Note: The suspect had written, “I’m a good bad boy!” I doubt the property owners share this sentiment.
ROBBERY
09/08/2015 9:21 PM

The victim had just pulled into his garage when the suspect walked in, pointed a dark colored handgun at him and demanded money. The suspect then struck the victim on the side of the head with the gun and the victim handed over his property.

The residents heard noises in their backyard and looked out to the see the suspect pacing back and forth. They called 911 and SFPD officers cornered the suspect but he sprinted into a nearby wooded area where they found him hiding and arrested him. He had a small amount of methamphetamine in his pocket.
ARREST: HIT & RUN / DUI / DRIVING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE
09/09/2015 10:40 PM
California & 18th Ave
The suspect was involved in a non-injury traffic collision and fled the scene without giving his information to the other driver. The other driver called the SFPD and gave a description of the car and the suspect driver which resulted in officers tracking him to his home a short distance away. They discovered that he was intoxicated and that his driver’s license was suspended.
ARREST: INDECENT EXPOSURE

MLK & Crossover area in Golden Gate Park
Witnesses reported that the suspect was exposing his genitalia and masturbating in a public area. Officers responded and arrested the suspect.
ARREST: RECKLESS DRIVING / DRIVING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE / PAROLE VIOLATION
09/10/2015 10:55 PM
Cabrillo & 47th Ave
Officers on patrol saw a Mustang speeding and screeching its tires. They stopped the car and found that the driver had a suspended license and was on parole for robbery.
ARREST: DUI
09/11/2015 3:30 AM
Geary & 3rd Ave
Officers were on another call when a Jeep came along and almost rear-ended their parked police car. The Jeep drove off and the officers saw that the windshield wipers were on despite there being no rain or fog. The Jeep was alternately weaving within the lane and straddling two lanes at once. Suspecting that the driver was drunk, they stopped the car. The driver appeared to be intoxicated and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Although the exterior of the police car was spared when the suspect did not hit it, the interior did not fare as well when he vomited all over the back seat on the way to jail.
Captain’s Note: Did I mention that the SFPD is recruiting? If you have a desire to serve and a strong stomach we may have just the job for you. http://www.sf-police.org/index.aspx?page=1645

Glad they got that Mustang – have witnessed this guy’s driving many many times over the last year. Not sure if it’s the same one who does ‘donuts’ at the Legion and in the Outer Avenues, which leave black circles on the street, and the sound of which reverberates throughout the entire neighborhood, but I think so.
The owner says her parrot Zeke was located by his feathers last week in a neighbor’s yard. RIP
