While the victim was using the ATM, she noticed a male standing close to her looking over her shoulder. As the victim proceeded with her transaction the male was pestering her to hurry up because he had somewhere he needed to be. The victim withdrew cash and the male suspect pushed her out of the way to access the ATM machine. The victim looked on the screen and noticed her account information was still up on the screen. The suspect was attempting to take money from her account. The victim yelled at the suspect and reached around him to clear the screen. In fear for her safety the victim noticed a passing police vehicle and flagged the officers down. The suspect fled, but was located and arrested a few blocks away, along with his accomplice who was waiting in a nearby vehicle. The two were booked on several felonies.

  1. I know in the moment it would be difficult to think quickly, but my hope is that if people are rushed at ATMs, that they would close out immediately and walk away. Then maybe even snap a photo of the suspect and notify the police. Easier said than done, I suppose.

  2. I very seldom use ATMs, but I think that, (now having read the first item of this weekly update) if I am using one and anyone reports to me that I need to “hurry up” for whatever reason that has given by another person in the vicinity of the ATM I’m using, that’s now a clear signal to me to immediately cancel the ongoing transaction, ascertain that the transaction has indeed been voided, and simply walk away from a potentially costly/dangerous situation. I’ll find another ATM or wait until I feel it’s safe to use that particular ATM once again.

  3. No “Captain’s Notes” this week? Those are my favorite! Always make me chuckle.

  4. Do we know what the male suspect wanted to do with the buffalo once he caught it?

  5. Still noticing signs of attempted break-ins. Open garages and unsecured back entrances…
