We got the PAR newsletter a couple of days ago and noticed this tidbit in it:
Blue Danube, the iconic coffee shop on Clement Street, had locals worried as months passed with little evidence of construction after its closure in early 2015. The reopening was expected last June, but the popular spot remained closed. However, construction has resumed, and we’re hoping for a happy new year for the Blue Danube instead of a “see you latte.”
The cafe closed back in early 2015 due to a serious plumbing issue which when investigated, was connected to a problem with the building’s foundation.
We haven’t had a chance to contact Jimmy, the owner, for news on an actual reopening date. But here’s hoping it’s soon – we know you guys miss it!

Good luck on the return, Blue Danube!
Great news!
I’ve been watching their early morning construction but haven’t been able to tell what they are up to. It will be nice to have Blue Danube back!
I can only pray they replaced that retched carpet
Yeah, great news indeed!

Any news on when they will be opening?
The other day as I walked passed the brown paper in the windows was down, all the lights were on and there was new carpet, clearly freshly installed. (I’ve been peaking in every chance I get.) The next day the brown paper in the windows was back so work continues.
I can’t believe it!!! Fresh carpet!!! This is great news. I swear that old carpet was so old and disgusting I stopped going inside.
Maybe this time when they reopen they will step out of the 90’s and offer customers free Wi-Fi.
