Reader Charley R. sent us this photo today of a gravel delivery fail on 45th Avenue near Balboa today.
It looks like there is construction going on in the property adjacent to the cars (see Google Maps street view below of the same spot; you can see the same red truck parked in that spot).
Perhaps the delivery truck backed up, raised the bed to deliver the gravel, and then the supports on the bed bent and collapsed, dumping the contents on the parked pickup truck.
Ouch, what a mess.

Looks like the driver didn’t properly account for the slope of the street.
That block of 45th ave is one of the steepest hills in SF.
It happens. Gravel accidents happen.
Wow, just looked at the pics and noticed that the lot that they were delivering the gravel to was one that used to have a funky little cottage that I rented years ago – kind of sad…

There was a news report a few years back of a woman killed by the exact same situation. These trucks need to be perfectly level else critical components bend and fail under the immense pressure/weight of the stone. Lucky no one was injured here.
