A neighborly lending library on California Street

library1

We walked by this cute book nook last night outside a building on California Street near 21st Avenue that we presume is a lending library of sorts. Or a house for booknerd birds… 😉

Tucked inside were copies of some bestsellers like Cloud Atlas and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. What a nice idea!

  1. It’s part of the Little Free Library and there’s also one at 18th and Anza. It’s a book swap — leave one and take one. Great way to recycle books you’ve read.

  2. One on 25th and Lake at the Kittredge School as well. We love the Little Free Library!

  3. Thanks so much to all who are posting these notes. I’m a Richmond District native, and I really appreciate the true neighborliness and positive/proactive nature of this blog. Also – regarding book swaps (which just warms my heart) – there is another growing book-swap at the laundromat on Balboa at 33rd.

  4. I’m most impressed by the cabinet and planter arrangement. It looks like someone put some effort into it. I’ve seen these in other cities and generally the “buildings” look kind of shabby.

  5. Reading is near and dear to my heart. I’ve seen other free lbraries around the neighborhood–they come and go–but the one featured in this blog is really wonderful! Kudos to the carpenter, and thanks to all who share their books!

  6. The one outside of the Kittredge School (25th and Lake) has been there for years. It houses an eclectic collection of adult and children’s books – lots of newberry winners.
