This weekend: Paintings, photography, sculpture & more on display from neighborhood artists as part of SF Open Studios

This weekend, Richmond District artists will open their studios as part of ArtSpan’s SF Open Studios event that takes place across the city in October and November.

19 different neighborhood artists across a wide variety of mediums including photography, mixed media, and painting will welcome visitors into their Richmond District studios on Saturday and Sunday from 11am until 6pm.

Artist Jay Mercado, known for his donut and migrant farm laborer paintings will open his studio on the corner of 10th Ave and California. Well-known portrait photographer Michael Jang, who is featured at SFMOMA and has photographed the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Ronald Reagan, and Robin Williams in his forty year career, will open his studio at 587 9th Avenue.

This is a great chance to take an extended art-themed walking or biking tour in the neighborhood, or introduce children to the lives and work of professional artists. Not to mention a great chance to find a great piece for that empty wall in your home.

Studio visits are free. Check out the map below to find locations of participating artists and click a map marker to find out more about them.
