After a fogust that seemed neverending, runners were happy to see the sun breaking through at the start line of the 6th annual Richmond District Jog in the Fog 5k presented by Kaiser Permanente on Sunday morning.
Hundreds came out to run the 3.4 mile course which started in Mountain Lake Park and finished in the USS SF Memorial Parking lot at Lands End.
The top female finisher this year was Jessica Blelloch, age 17, who took her THIRD Jog in the Fog title in as many years with a time of 26:03 (an improvement on her 2017 time by 2:16!). The course record for the top female was set by Phebe in 2015 with a time of 22:05.
Top male finisher was David Hoch, age 27, with a time of 22:10. Very fast, but the course record is still held by Peter Lunny at 20:34, set in 2016.
Top finishers in the 12 & under category were Henrietta Benziger for the girls, age 12 with a finishing time of 31:07. And for the boys it was Enrique Gonzalez, age 11, with a finish of 25:50.
In addition to the regular 3.4 mile course, Build Group also sponsored the Mile Rock Challenge again this year. Runners who ran down the Mile Rock Beach stairs (and back up!) next to the coastal trail were given a chip which they could then redeem for a prize in the finish area.
Race finishers enjoyed donated water and snacks from Grocery Outlet, RXBar and Bear Snacks. Clement Street’s Cumaica Coffee also passed out coffee to the first 200 finishers, and Angelina’s Deli & Cafe was on site with samples of their delicious granola.
Proceeds from Jog in the Fog benefit the Richmond District YMCA, which totaled just over $11,000 this year thanks to race registrations, sponsorships from many local businesses, and a great group of volunteers.
If you participated in Sunday’s race, online results are available here, and finish line photos can be viewed and downloaded here.
Thanks to everyone who supported this year’s race. We’ll see you next year!
