Reader Joey Y. sent us this documentary video he made about the Richmond District. He hopes it’s the first in a series of videos he is planing about the neighborhood.
In this first video, Joey focuses on the “wilder” parts of the neighborhood like Lands End and Ocean Beach.
We enjoyed it – and hope to see more from Joey’s perspective!

Land’s End is for sure my favorite place to visit in San Francisco. It was in viewing of the beautiful “The Garden” video by Sean Barnett (posted now almost seven years ago on this site) that spurred me into visiting Land’s End. I said to myself that someday I too was going to enjoy some “alone time” amid the Sutro Baths ruins, just like the young woman is seen doing in the video, with the waves of the Pacific lapping at her. That was almost seven years ago as well. Since that first visit, I’ve managed to make it back to the Land’s End area at least once every year that has passed since then. When contemplating the fact that I’ve made it back to the Land’s End, once again absorbing in its sunshine, beauty, and solitude, I often think to myself, “Randy, you endured a 5 and a half hour flight to be here and spent a lot of money as well to be here. Was it worth it?” I always answer myself yes–every single penny. As always, I can’t wait to be back there.
Really nice job Joey. I can’t wait to see the other Richmond distric episodes.
Well done, Joey! I live at 15th and Lake and can relate to everything you said and showed. You have the making of a great reporter or documentary film maker. Keep it up. Can’t wait to watch your next episodes.
Great video. Thanks so much. Looking forward to the next.
Awesome, Joey!! I know this took a lot of work. Video editing, script, your natural on-camera presence—outstanding. Looking forward to your next video.
