West Fest, a free music festival celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock, is coming to Golden Gate Park on October 25. Best of all, admission is free! The concert will be held at Speedway Meadow.
Acts will include Country Joe McDonald, Prairie Prince, Ray Manzarek of the Doors, Lester Chambers of the Chambers Brothers and original Sly and the Family Stone members Greg Errico, Jerry Martini and Cynthia Robinson.
The event is being produced by Boots Hughston, who two years ago put on the 40th anniversary Summer of Love concert in the same location with a similar lineup.
To set this event apart, organizers also hope to recruit at least 3,000 volunteer musicians to pay tribute to Jimi Hendrix by simultaneously playing “Purple Haze” in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for largest guitar ensemble.
The event has also designed a great set of commemorative posters – check them out here.
