Happy Tuesday to everyone! Here’s a few local links to attract your mouse:
- A report from an online survey run by SFSU found that the Outside Lands concert in Golden Gate Park generated $60 million in revenue last year. “The sales impact of Outside Lands 2011 on San Francisco’s economy was $60.6 million, with another $6.6 million for the rest of the Bay Area.” Another factoid: 73% of concert attendees live outside the city.
- Untapped Cities put an architecture spotlight on the Conservatory of Flowers.
- Like birds? Don’t miss the Birding the Greenbelt: Sutro Baths and Sutro Heights Park free tour on March 10.
- Tablehopper reports that a Cassava Bakery & Cafe is opening this week at 3519 Balboa at 36th Avenue. “The sample menu mentions some simple breakfast items (although there is also “Japanese Breakfast” with stuffed rice balls, miso soup, onsen tamago, and housemade pickles), while lunch brings soups (potato and ham, lentil), salads, and panini (like meatloaf on challah), plus fresh-baked cookies, empanadas, and quiches.”
- Still haven’t seen the Sutro Baths documentary (trailer)? Attend a free screening at the Sunset Branch Library on Monday, March 5 at 7pm. Director Tom Wyrsch will be there for a Q&A afterwards.
- Two tempting deals for ya: Spend $20 and get $40 worth of framing services at Cheap Pete’s on Geary. Or spend $10 to get $20 worth of delicious grub at Pizza Orgasmica on Clement.
- San Francyclo, the new bike shop on Arguello, had its first celeb sighting on Sunday. Comedian Robin Williams came in and purchased an ear flap Chuey Brand cycling hat.

For the folks that felt put upon and inconvenienced and who threatened to try to stop Outside Lands from occurring in the future, please read the above report and reconsider. As was pointed out multiple times, the event is a boon for the city, even at the expense of some people’s ability to get to sleep at their normal hour for a few days. $60M is a lot of dough.
As a longtime Richmond resident, I am PRO Outside Lands!!
Here we go again. First, those of us who were unhappy with the concerts are not necessarily trying to stop them. All we’re asking for is a little thoughtfulness and consideration so the impact on the neighborhood, especially the noise from OL, is managed better. And as for the study, it turns out that only about 2% of those who were given questionnaires filled them out. Unless the researchers can confirm that those 2% are a representative sample of all concert attendees, the study’s not worth the paper it’s written on.
Sarah,
I was interested in “Untapped Cities put an architecture spotlight on the Conservatory of Flowers.”, but the link is bad.
I Googled it, and found it at the UntappedCities link below:

Thanks for piquing my curiosity.
