Police Blotter – November 9, 2012

CAPTAIN SHARON FERRIGNO’S MESSAGE
Last night Sergeant Murphy of Richmond Station worked with members of our Sacramento Street Merchants Associations, and neighbors to share the importance of installing video cameras in merchant corridors. Project SAFE helps merchants and neighbors improve their security and SAFE is a great resource for merchants who wish to install cameras. Merchants wishing to install cameras or host a presentation should reach out to Morgan St. Clair at SF Safe at 415 553-1968.

Winter is upon us and with that comes a whole new list of rules to be reminded of.

Drivers please slow down especially upon the first rain when the roadway is slippery and stopping is more of a challenge. Pedestrians and bike riders please remember that drivers may have a difficult time seeing you especially when wearing dark clothing.

On Wednesday, November 28, 2012, the members of Richmond Station will be hosting the Police Commission Community meeting here in the Richmond District. It will be held at Roosevelt Middle School , 460 Arguello Blvd at 6:00pm. The Commissioners will hear comments from the public and me concerning public protection issues. Parking is available on the Palm Ave side of the school. There are several MUNI lines in the vicinity, including the 38 Geary, 1 California , 2 Clement and the 31 Balboa.

Our regularly scheduled monthly community meeting will not be held this month as a result of the Police Commission meeting.

NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 11/03/12 at 4:20pm, officers were sent to a parking lot off of 19th Ave and Geary regarding juveniles who were tampering with vehicles. Officers located the juveniles as they were walking south on 19th towards Anza. As the officers approached, the juveniles, seeing the officers, threw objects into a nearby planter box. Those items turned out to be brass knuckles and a long metal pipe. The juveniles were also found to be in possession of folding knives, a wrench, narcotics and alcohol. The officers determined that there had not been any damage to vehicles. The juveniles, 2 16 year olds and a 13 and 14 year old were charged accordingly and released to their parents.

On 11/04/12 at 8:45pm, officers were on a traffic stop at Emerson and Geary when they heard a female scream “Don’t do it, the cops are right there!” The officers looked over and saw a male from the overpass above Geary, throw a large pumpkin over his head and down onto eastbound Geary Blvd traffic lanes. The two then ran into a nearby business. The officers ran over to the business where an employee was standing out in front and he told the officers that the suspect ran east on Geary. The officers knew that was not possible and found the male suspect hiding in an office. The 26 year old, who was showing signs of alcohol consumption, was charged with throwing an injurious substance on a highway.

On 11/06/12 at 1:52am, officers were on patrol in the area of the 500 block of 43rd Ave , when they observed a male, dressed all in black walking in the middle of the street. The stopped to do a well being check on him and discovered that he had 6 outstanding warrants for his arrest and was also in possession of crack cocaine. The 57 year old male was charged with a narcotic violation and the warrants.

On 11/08/12 at 1:50pm, an officer was dispatched to the area of 36th and Anza regarding a male who was intoxicated and drinking a beer in front of the elementary school. The officer detained the male and determined that he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for burglary from Dallas , Texas . The officer was about to take the suspect into custody when the suspect took off on foot. The officer gave chase and at one point was able to tackle him to the ground. The suspect continued to fight with the officer and got up and took off running again. The officer got up to give chase, but had sustained an injury to his knee. A passerby had seen this occur and told the officer to get in his truck and they continued to drive south on 36th Ave towards Cabrillo. As the suspect turned east onto Cabrillo, the citizen drove just passed him and stopped the truck. The suspect, who didn’t know the officer was in the truck came over to the driver and asked him for a ride. The suspect then saw the officer in the passenger seat and took off running again. The officer was able to catch up to him again on the 800 block of 35th Ave and again tackled him to the ground. The suspect kept resisting and finally when back up officers arrived, they were able to take him into custody. Both the officer and the suspect were taken to local hospitals to receive treatment. The suspect, a 27 year old male, was charged with the warrant, resisting arrest causing injury to an officer, and alcohol consumption.

NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
On 11/03/12 at 6:20am on the 600 block of Cabrillo, a resident of the home was awoken by a noise from outside her window. As she looked outside, she saw a male trying to pry open her garage from the top of the door and yelled out to him. He then walked away, west on Cabrillo. He was described as a black male, 35-40 years, wearing a dark baseball cap and all black clothing.

Between 11/03/12, 9:45pm and 11/04/12, 9:45am on the unit block of Kittredge, a suspect gained entry into a garage possibly through an unlocked tradesman door and took jewelry from a bag.

On 11/03/12 at 10:30pm, the victim was walking on the 300 block of Anza when he was approached by the suspect. The male demanded that the victim hand over his “stuff” and with that the victim took off running. The suspect chased after him and grabbed his shirt and started punching him in the head. The suspect then removed the victim’s wallet and cell phone from his pants pockets and fled the scene. The suspect was described as a black male, 6’4”, and 240 lbs. The victim had no further recollection of the incident due to a head injury as a result of the robbery.

Between 11/04/12 and 11/07/12 a suspect took a bike from a garage on the 100 block of Seal Rock Drive . The victim told the officer that her neighbor had seen a homeless type male standing in front of her home on 11/06/12 ranting and raving, looking at a bike. It is unknown if the bike was the victims.

On 11/05/12, between 3:15pm and 5pm on the 1600 block of Pierce St, a suspect gained entry into an apartment and took two laptops and jewelry. There were no signs of forced entry.

On 11/05/12, between 3pm and 9:40pm, a resident of an apartment building on the 400 block of 43rd Ave came home to find the front gate open. She went into the garage and saw that her car had been rummaged through and that two bikes had also been taken.

On 11/05/12 at 4:30pm, on the 3100 block of Washington , a suspect walked into a school and took two backpacks that were left unattended. An employee of the school was alerted and he ran out to see the suspect fleeing in a black Dodge Ram pick-up. The suspect was described as a white male wearing a black baggy t-shirt, black shorts and he had tattoos on both arms.

Between 11/05/12, 4pm and 11/06/12, 11am on the 600 block of 26th Ave , a suspect took two bikes from a garage. There were no signs of forced entry.

On 11/06/12 at 2:50am, the victim and a friend were out drinking at a bar where he met the suspects. As they left, the victim offered to sell one of the suspects his cell phone and he and two of the suspects walked across the street. The victim handed one of the suspects 2 cell phones for him to look at, which the suspect proceeded to put in his pocket. The victim asked to have the phones returned to him and the suspect replied, “There is no phone.” An argument ensued and the victim tried to retrieve the phones from the suspect’s pocket. All three suspects punched the victim in the face and fled south on 28th Ave towards Anza. The suspects were described as 2 Hispanic males, one wearing a dark beanie cap, dark hooded sweatshirt and had long black hair. The third was a white male wearing a gray button down shirt.

On 11/07/12 between 4pm and 10pm on the unit block of Seal Rock Drive , a suspect gained access into a garage by unknown means and took two bicycles.

On 11/07/12 at 4:50pm, a male walked into a bank on the 3700 block of Balboa and with a note that stated he had a gun, demanded money. The teller complied and the suspect fled south on 38th Ave , He was described as an Asian male, 30’s, wearing a dark baseball cap and sunglasses.
