This Friday is PARK(ing) Day, an annual, one-day, global event where artists, activists, and citizens collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spots into “PARK(ing)†spaces: temporary public parks.
So if you ever wished your local park had more flowers, or more comfortable furniture, or if you just wish you had a backyard, Friday is your chance to get creative and create your public space. Even if it is only 10′ x 20′. 😉
Find a metered spot on Clement, Geary or Balboa and park it! With a top hardware store on Clement and nurseries closeby, I think your park could come together very quickly.
I wonder if you have to feed the meter all day long???
Check out some of the past PARK(ing) day creations in the slideshow below. Or check out the video to see some of the parks in action. Anything goes here. After all, what else is a park but shared outdoor space?
From the PARK(ing) Day map, it looks like most of the SF parks are planned for Telegraph Hill, along Market Street, just South of Market and the Mission.
Anyone going do to a Richmond special for the big day? If you do, let us know here on the blog so we can drop in for a visit. You can get all the details on the event and how to participate at my.parkingday.org.
