Here are some of the incidents that occurred in the Richmond Police District this week:

ARREST: DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
10/29/2015 1:00 AM
Fulton & 30th Ave
Officers using a LIDAR speed measuring device (AKA a “radar gun”) clocked a car going 47 MPH in the 30 MPH zone. They stopped the driver and found that he was under the influence of alcohol.

TRAFFIC COLLISION WITH INJURY
10/29/2015 11:40 AM
Euclid & Parker
A station wagon was turning from southbound Parker to eastbound Euclid. At the same time, a mother was pushing a stroller (with her daughter riding on the front) across the east crosswalk of the intersection. The car struck the child resulting in severe injuries. The child remains hospitalized at this time.

INTERNET SCAM
10/29/2015 1:00 PM
Anza & 40th Ave
The victim responded via e-mail to a Craigslist ad offering a house for rent on 40th Ave. The suspect “Russell” claimed to be the owner and convinced the victim to wire him a deposit of $2100 sight unseen. When the victim went to look at the house she met the actual owner, an elderly woman who has lived there for 40 years and has no plans to rent out the house.
Captain’s Note: This brings new meaning to the term “hot property.” Never send someone money for a rental sight unseen as this is almost always a scam.

CITATION: MISUSE OF A DISABLED PERSON’S PARKING PLACARD
10/29/2015 5:26 PM
Bush & Divisadero
Officers saw a driver park in a space designated for disabled persons. The driver did not appear to have mobility problems as he trotted into a nearby business, so the officers asked him if the disabled person’s parking placard hanging from the mirror of the car was his. The driver admitted that the placard had been issued to his brother in law who was presently in Mongolia. Captain’s Note: It would have been lawful for the driver to park in the space to pick up his brother in law. However, the brother in law was 6000 miles away which is a little too far for the parking spot to be considered a good spot – even by San Francisco standards.

ARREST: AGGRAVATED ASSAULT / POSSESSION OF A PROHIBITED WEAPON
10/30/2015 1:15 PM
MLK & Nancy Pelosi
A woman was walking through the park when she noticed the approaching suspect talking to himself. After passing the woman, the suspect called out to her and she turned around. At this point he punched her in the arm while wearing brass knuckles (a prohibited weapon). The woman called 911 and responding officers arrested the suspect.

ARREST: DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
11/01/2015 12:47 AM
Anza & 4th Ave
The impaired driver crashed into two parked cars, causing significant damage but injuring only himself.
Captain’s Note: Damaging parked cars is bad enough, but change the words “two parked cars” to “two pedestrians” “two cyclists” or “two occupied cars” and you understand why the officers at Richmond Station work diligently to catch DUI drivers.

THEFT
11/01/2015 1:30 AM
Cabrillo & 6th Ave
A woman met a stranger at a bar and invited him back to the home that she shares with two roommates. After the woman fell asleep, the suspect stole items from everyone in the house and fled. The haul included four laptops, three mobile phones, two rings, and $1000 in cash. In the following days, investigators from Richmond Station determined the identity of the suspect, served a search warrant at his home, tracked the suspect down and arrested him just as he pulled up to what turned out to be a job interview at a restaurant. He had cocaine in his pocket at the time of his arrest.
Captain’s Note: The three things you should always bring to a job interview are a couple of extra copies of your resume, a positive attitude and some cocaine. Wait… maybe there’s just two things you should bring.

TRAFFIC COLLISION WITH INJURY
11/02/2015 5:20 AM
Park Presidio & Crossover
The driver of a Toyota SUV was going too fast as she approached a curve in the road. She lost control of her vehicle and flipped it over injuring only herself.
Captain’s Note: This happened during the first significant rainfall that we’ve had in a long time and it serves as a reminder to slow down when the road is wet. The vehicle code requires us to drive at a speed that is safe for the current conditions. There may be times (such as during a rainstorm) when the safe speed is actually lower than the posted speed limit.

ARREST: BURGLARY / BATTERY / WARRANT
11/03/2015 11:53 AM
Cabrillo & 18th Ave
The suspect snuck onto the campus of Argonne Elementary and staff members confronted him as he was stealing items (including an employee’s purse) from a storage area. They called 911 and followed him as he left the campus and tried to get away. At one point he swung a backpack at two staff members striking (but not injuring) them. Officers arrived and arrested the suspect who had a warrant for a drug violation from Solano County.
Captain’s Note: The crime of burglary includes entering a building with the intent to commit a theft. In this case, we may presume this intent because the suspect had no lawful business on school grounds, let alone in the storage closet.

ROBBERY OF A STORE (VIA GUN)
11/04/2015 8:00 PM
Geary & 28th Ave
The suspect walked into the store and stood in the checkout line as if to pay for a drink. As the cashier was making change, the suspect pointed a gun at him and took the cash from the register.
Suspect: Black male, early 30’s, 5’10” thin build, wearing a light colored beanie all black clothing and bright green work gloves. Armed with a dark colored semi-automatic pistol

  1. any attention to pedestrian right of way and vehicles speeding on fulton between park presidio and 48 th ave is much appreciated. Is a 24/7 problem.

  2. It concerns me that some stranger snuck into Argonne elementary? What’s up with that?

  3. Dear SFMom,
It’s shockingly easy to sneak into most schools tbh, but I agree.
