Do you amaze your friends with your knowledge of plants and flowers? Was Cliff Clavin your favorite character on Cheers? Then this opportunity was tailor made for you…
The Conservatory of Flowers, Golden Gate Park’s stunning historic greenhouse full of rare and beautiful tropical flora, is currently recruiting volunteers to lead group tours and conduct school visits.
Becoming a qualified volunteer does take some training. The Conservatory hosts an annual 7-week training session this summer which introduces new volunteers to the Conservatory’s expert staff and provides an in depth introduction to their collection of over 1700 species of tropical plants. There is a $50 cost for the training which covers all mandatory training materials.
The 7-week training program will be held at the Conservatory every Monday from July 12 through August 23 from 1-4pm. Once completed, volunteers are asked to commit to two shifts per month for a minimum of a year as either a Jungle Guide leading school groups or as a docent leading free guided tours for adults.
Volunteers who complete the course have ongoing opportunities for education throughout the year including field trips to area gardens and enjoy insider perks like sneak previews of special exhibits, social activities, free passes, a gift store discount and more.
The Conservatory is especially interested in volunteers who speak Chinese and Spanish. Interested volunteers should contact Erika Frank, Director of Volunteer Services, at 637-4326 or efrank@sfcof.org.
