UPCOMING POLICE/COMMUNITY FORUM MEETING
Please attend our next Police/Community Forum on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Richmond Recreation Center, 251 18th Avenue. We will again be devoting most of the meeting to discussing the Outside Lands Music Festival, which is scheduled for August 28 to 30 this year in Golden Gate Park. Your input is important as we plan for policing the event.

CAPTAIN RICHARD CORREIA’S MESSAGE
On June 18, 2009 seven members of the SFPD, including four officers from Richmond Station, will be recognized at a luncheon sponsored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving. These officers have focused their patrol time on traffic safety and each has made a significant number of DUI arrests in the last year. Every DUI arrest makes the streets safer and potentially prevents a fatality. All the Officers at Richmond Station are proud of our colleagues.

As many of you know I write a column in the Richmond Review each month. As I prepare to write my sixth one, I would really appreciate your input as to what topics the community might find both interesting and helpful. Please email me by June 20 with your ideas at Richard.Corriea@sfgov.org.

Parking is not permitted on the Great Highway between the foot of Point Lobos and Fulton after 10:00 PM. I have received several complaints about this regulation be ignored. As such, officers are now regularly issuing citations in this area.

During the past week, there were 20 traffic accidents, 2 involving injuries. There was also 1 arrest for driving under the influence.

NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 06/04/09 at 2:20pm, officers responded to the area of 42nd Avenue and Point Lobos on a report of a vandalism and assault that had just occurred. The victim told the officers the following: She stopped at the stop sign and the suspect crossed the street in the crosswalk. As he passed the front of the victim’s car, the suspect yelled at her to get off of her cell phone, and then took a key out of his pocket and scratched the hood of the victim’s vehicle. The suspect then proceeded into a nearby business and the victim called the police. The victim went into the business and asked the suspect why he keyed her car. As the suspect attempted to leave the store he pushed the victim out of the way. A 63-year-old male was charged with vandalism and assault.

On 05/21/09 on the 500 block of 21st Avenue a garage door had been left open and a suspect entered and took a bicycle and a paint gun. The victim did not initially report the incident because he thought he would never get his bike back. On 06/05/09 the victim was looking through Craigslist and saw his bike being offered for sale. The victim contacted the police to report the incident. Plainclothes officers set up a meeting with the seller of the bike and with the victim. The meeting took place on the 300 block of Ocean Avenue. The victim and the officers verified that it was the victim’s bike. The “seller” a 31-year-old male, was then charged with possession of stolen property.

On 06/08/09 at 2:45am officers responded to a call of two males doing graffiti to a building at 11th Avenue and Clement Street. A witness was watching the suspects from a window in their residence and provided dispatch with a description of the two males. Officers arrived in the area and detained two males, and found a brown paper bag containing two aerosol paint cans. The officers observed the graffiti that had covered a large section of a wall of a business. The two males, a 19 and 20 year old, were charged with felony vandalism and possession of graffiti tools.

NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
On 06/05/09, between 12:00pm and 12:30pm, on the 200 block of Willard North a suspect gained entry into an apartment and took jewelry, a laptop and a video game system. There were no signs of forced entry.

On 06/05/09 at 1:26pm a victim returned to her car which she had parked at 21st Avenue and Geary. The victim forgot to lock her car and while she was away a suspect entered and removed a large amount of cash from the vehicle along with her I-pod and camera. The victim and her boyfriend then drove around the area to see if they might be able to locate the suspect. When they got to 22nd Avenue and Anza they saw a male standing on the corner counting a large amount of cash. The male saw the two staring at him and reached towards his waistband as if he had a weapon. The male then walked away and the victims circled the block, coming across him again at 24th Avenue and Anza. The suspect made eye contact with the victims and reached for his waistband, this time pulling out a handgun and pointed it directly at the victims. The victims then drove out of the area and called the police.

On 06/06/09 on the 200 block of Anza, between 2:10pm and 4:30pm, a suspect entered into an apartment and took a laptop, watch and cash. There were no signs of forced entry.

On 06/07/09 at 9:50pm a victim was walking on the 700 block of 22nd Avenue. He noticed a parked black vehicle that was occupied by three males. He passed the vehicle and was a short distance away when he was suddenly grabbed from behind and pulled to the ground. While one of the suspects was punching the victim, another was trying to get his hand into the victim’s pants pocket. The victim started yelling for help and the two suspects fled to the vehicle and fled south on 22nd Avenue. The suspects were described as two males in their early 20’s wearing all dark clothing. The victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

On 06/10/09 at 2:50am, four males entered a business on the 5100 block of Geary. The males walked around the store and one of them went to the back and grabbed a case of beer and ran out the front door. The clerk followed the suspect out of the store and grabbed him by the back of his shirt. The suspect punched the clerk in the face as the clerk grabbed onto the case of beer. Meanwhile, the other suspects who had gotten into a vehicle, exited the car and began to punch the clerk. The clerk let go of the beer and the suspects fled north on 16th Avenue in their vehicle, which was described as a black 4-door sedan and fled. The victim refused medical treatment.
