The next Police/Community Forum meeting is on Tuesday, July 21 from 1 – 2pm at the Richmond Recreation Center at 251 18th Avenue.
The meeting will cover the topic of graffiti – how to prevent it, how to deal with it on your property or others, and ways we can help the police department in combatting it. The guest speaker is Officer Chris Putz from the Police Graffiti Abatement Unit.
Graffiti is a serious problem in the Richmond. A police blotter from last month focused on it as did Captain Correia’s column in the July issue of the Richmond Review.

Too bad this meeting isn’t in the evening, more people would probably be able to attend.

Thanks for this post and photos. There are many “hotspots” in the Richmond. Readers can choose several levels of getting involved. For most a call to 311 to report the grafitti puts the location in the database, gets the owner notified they have to clean it up and also helps compile statistics. Readers can also call 311 to report dumping such as trash and that couch the neighbors just want to throw out. It is sad. As a resident we all have 2 free pickups a year from Sunset Scavenger, usually they will come within a week.
Yes, I’ve had good help from 311. Used them once to remove what amounted to an abandoned living room’s worth of furniture on my block. And they’ll come to tow away motorcycles that illegally park on the sidewalk up against my building. They are responsive.
