San Francisco’s Open Studios event kicked off last weekend. The annual event allows local emerging and established artists to open their studio doors and show their artwork.
On Friday night, I attended the open house at ActivSpace on 18th Street. I visited with the staff of online newspaper SF Appeal (who have offices there), as well as my friend and artist Prudy Kohler, who was giving demonstrations of the polaroid transfer process and displaying her handmade jewelry.
The beauty of Open Studios is that it’s for artists all over the city, and different neighborhoods open their artistic doors over four weekends. This weekend includes the Richmond District. Below is a guide to all of the neighborhood artists who will be propping open their studio doors and sharing their artwork with the public. You may just discover that there’s great art right around the corner from where you live.
Artists will have their studios open from 11am to 6pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Note that some locations house multiple artist studios. Click on an artist’s name to find out more or view their work.
