The SF Examiner is reporting today that the marijuana club at 4811 Geary near 12th Avenue, known as the Hemp Center, was robbed at gunpoint last Friday.
Armed suspects, described as two black males, brandished an uzi rifle and a handgun around 6:35pm, demanding cash and marijuana. Police report that two workers, a 53-year-old woman and 30-year-old man, complied with the robbers.
The Hemp Center, which bills itself as “San Francisco’s premiere Cannabis Dispensary and Private Patient Club”, denies that a robbery took place.
No one was injured during the robbery, and police have not released any details on how much money or product was taken. According to their website, the Hemp Center has been in operation since 1999.
UPDATE (11/23): SFWeekly reports that the thieves made off with less than $1,000 in cash and medicinal marijuana, with one employee calling the incident “more like a comedy act than a robbery.” The robbers overlooked a register and left a trail of pot on their way out the door.

Kind of crazy the club denies being robbed. Was it robbed or not? Somebody reported a robbery to police, then denied it, even if there were ethnic and arsenal descriptions? Something’s f”d up.
They denied it to the Examiner (probably hoping to avoid publicity), but clearly reported it to police.

Bad publicity, and it brought an element to the neighborhood that most groups against putting a “medical dispensary” said it would bring. We should do what they did on The Wire and put all these places in one area.
Half a block? What school are they talking about? It’s a block and a half at least to Sutro School…
But yeah, still not an awesome place to have in our neighborhood. At least no one was hurt!
Shut it down completely, and let the afflicted get their “medicine” elsewhere.

Better close the BofA on Balboa and 38th since its been robbed many times and is one block from St. Thomas school!
I walked down Geary Blvd (on the north side) last Wednesday around 12:30pm. There was a guy standing in the door way (the gates were open but the door was closed) of that place yelling and screaming but nothing that made any sense. I could hear him a block away. I was going to wait for the bus but when he started banging on the door as well I decided to keep going. I had no idea that it was marijuana club until I saw the story.
