CAPTAIN RICHARD CORREIA’S MESSAGE
There has been a statistical spike in burglaries in the Richmond District in the area between Park Presidio Boulevard and 36th Avenue in the last ninety days. These have been daytime burglaries where doors were kicked in or smashed with a heavy tool. If you see anybody behaving suspiciously in your neighborhood please call us immediately. If you believe a crime is in progress or one seems likely to occur you should call 911. Your risk of burglary is low but you can reduce it even more by better home security. In this regard please contact SF SAFE (www.sfsafe.org) for a free on-site home security assessment.

During the past week in the District there were 19 traffic accidents 10 involving injuries. There were 4 citations issued for driving without a license or driving on a suspended license. There was 1 arrest for driving under the influence.
NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 11/18/10 at 9:20pm two victims were walking on Scott towards Jackson Street . The suspect came up from behind the victims and began to tug on one of the victim’s purses. The suspect then yelled at the victims to give up their stuff while pointing a handgun at them. One of the victims gave up her purse and the suspect then ran south on Scott Street and then westbound Washington. A victim gave chase and saw the suspect enter a vehicle and flee. The victims were able to provide the officers with a description of the vehicle. Other officers located the suspect and vehicle at Grove and Steiner and detained him. Officers located the victim’s property in the vehicle along with property that may have been taken in another incident. The gun was determined to be a toy. The 19 year old suspect was charged with robbery and possession of stolen property.
On 11/20/10 at 1:08am officers were called to an auto burglary that had just occurred on the 600 block of 36th Avenue . A description was provided by the witness and officers located the suspect walking away from the scene and detained him. The suspect told the officers that he had been at a nearby bar and decided he didn’t want to drive home so he left his car at 36th and Balboa. He was holding car keys in his hand. Officers determined that the suspect was on probation and conducted a search of his person. They located a flashlight and additional keys on his person. They also located a backpack that had been tossed under a nearby parked car which contained a stereo faceplate, an I-pod and tools. Upon checking on the status of the suspect’s vehicle the officers determined that the car had been reported stolen. The owner of the vehicle that had been broken into was located and he identified the property that was found in the backpack as his. Additional property was recovered in the suspect’s vehicle. The 43 year old male was charged with auto burglary, stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property and a probation violation.
NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
On 11/14/10 at 4:15am, officers responded to an alarm call on the 3600 block of Sacramento Street. Officers saw that the front glass door of a clothing store had been smashed out and various articles of clothing were on the ground. It appeared that the suspects drove their vehicle up onto the sidewalk in front of the store. When the suspects fled they drove east on the sidewalk damaging several large planting pots along the way. The manager responded to the store and the loss is being determined.
On 10/14/10 at 10:30am on the 2800 block of Turk Street officers responded to a call of an auto burglary that had just occurred. The victims reported that they were walking to their car which was parked on Turk Street. As they crested the hill they could see that the trunk of their car was open and the suspect was handling items in the trunk. The three ran to the suspect and yelled at him. The suspect backed away from the car while holding onto one of the victim’s camera bag. The victim grabbed the strap of the bag and ordered the suspect to return her property. A lengthy struggle ensued and the suspect finally let go saying, “fine, take it”. The suspect then ran off east on Turk Street . The victim then realized that her finger was severely dislocated as a result of the struggle and another friend reset the victim’s finger for her. They discovered that the suspect was able to take the stereo face plate and an I-phone from the vehicle. The suspect was described as a male 23-27 years of age with spiked hair, gapped teeth, wearing a white t-shirt, long burgundy jacket and dark pants.
Between 11/14/10 at 10pm and 11/15/10 at 7am on the 2000 block of Balboa Street a suspect pried open a lock box which contained a key used by postal carriers to open the building’s front gate. The suspect used the key to open the gate and then forced open the front door and gained access into the garage. The suspect then took frozen food items from the freezer.
On 11/14/10 at 10:40pm officers were called to the area of the Polo Fields on a report of a vehicle fire. Officers found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. SFFD responded and extinguished the fire. It was determined that the vehicle had been stolen from San Mateo.
On 11/16/10 between 9:30am and 6:30pm on the 500 block of 26th Avenue a suspect entered into an apartment via an open window. The suspect then took two laptops, jewelry and game systems.
On 11/18/10 between 10am and 12pm on the 300 block of 20th Avenue a suspect entered an apartment by kicking in the front door. The suspect took watches and a laptop.
On 11/19/10 at 6:35pm on the 4800 block of Geary Boulevard two suspects entered a business armed with handguns. The suspects took cash from the register and medicinal marijuana. The suspects were described as males both wearing bandana’s covering their faces, black hooded sweatshirts and blue jeans.
On 11/20/10 at 6:15pm a victim was walking on the 500 block of 20th Avenue. She was grabbed from behind by the suspect and pushed into the wall of a house. The victim fell to the ground and the suspect began searching her pockets as the victim screamed for help. The suspect then pointed a hand gun at the victim and she stopped struggling. The suspect then removed her wallet and keys from her pocket and ran north on 20th Avenue . A witness observed the suspect getting into a dark four door sedan. The suspect is described as a male, 20-25 years of age, 5’10, 130lbs, wearing a dark baseball cap and black coat. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital.
